What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Software Developer Manager, and why are they important?

A Software Developer Manager needs a strong background in software engineering, leadership experience, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools (like Jira), version control systems (such as Git), and methodologies like Agile or Scrum is essential, along with relevant certifications. Exceptional communication, team-building, and problem-solving skills help leaders motivate teams and resolve conflicts effectively. These skills ensure efficient project delivery, foster innovation, and maintain high team morale in dynamic tech environments.

How does a Software Developer Manager typically balance hands-on coding with leadership responsibilities?

A Software Developer Manager often splits their time between technical tasks and managerial duties. While they may participate in code reviews, technical planning, and occasionally contribute code, a significant portion of their role involves mentoring team members, facilitating collaboration, and aligning projects with business objectives. Balancing these responsibilities requires strong time management and delegation skills, as well as the ability to adapt to the needs of both the team and the organization. This hybrid focus allows manager-developers to stay technically engaged while guiding the team's growth and productivity.

What is a Software Developer Manager?

A Software Developer Manager is a professional who leads and oversees a team of software developers, guiding them through the design, development, and maintenance of software applications. They are responsible for managing project timelines, setting goals, and ensuring the team delivers high-quality code. In addition to technical expertise, they must possess strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to effectively coordinate between their team and other departments. Their role also often includes mentoring developers, conducting performance reviews, and helping to shape the overall technical strategy of the organization.

Job description

As a Sr. Software Developer in Test - Mobile Platform Automation, you’ll help drive Concora Credit’s Mission to enable customers to Do More with Credit – every single day.

The impact you’ll have at Concora Credit:

As a Senior SDET focused on mobile automation, you will own the strategy and implementation of automated testing for our React Native application, with an emphasis on executing tests on physical devices. You will design and build reliable automation, integration testing into our CI/CD pipelines, and help establish the foundation for scalable mobile test infrastructure. Working closely with developers, business analysts, and product owners to build robust automation test suites and craft effective test solutions that ensure high-quality product delivery. This role combines technical expertise with collaborative teamwork in an agile environment. While you will have plenty of opportunities to learn from other team members, your main responsibilities will be to emphasize automation and execute it to ensure the highest level of quality.

We hire people, not positions. That's because, at Concora Credit, we put people first, including our customers, partners, and Team Members. Concora Credit is guided by a single purpose: to help non-prime customers do more with credit. Today, we have helped millions of customers access credit. Our industry leadership, resilience, and willingness to adapt ensure we can help our partners responsibly say yes to millions more. As a company grounded in entrepreneurship, we're looking to expand our team and are looking for people who foster innovation, strive to make an impact, and want to Do More! We’re an established company with over 20 years of experience, but now we’re taking things to the next level. We're seeking someone who wants to impact the business and play a pivotal role in leading the charge for change.

As our Sr. Software Developer in Test - Mobile Platform Automation you will:

  • Design, build, and maintain automated tests for our React Native mobile application.
  • Implement and support testing on physical Android and iOS devices.
  • Own and evolve mobile test infrastructure (including device management as we scale)
  • Integrated automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps)
  • Improve test reliability by identifying and reducing flakiness.
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve testability and coverage.
  • Establish best practices for mobile test automation and execution.

These duties must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

We know experience comes in many forms and that many skills are transferable. If your experience is close to what we're looking for, consider applying. Diversity has made us the entrepreneurial and innovative company that we are today.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with:
    • Mobile test automation using tools such as Appium and/or Detox.
    • Testing mobile applications on Android and/or iOS devices, including debugging and device interaction.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and experience with common test frameworks like Jest and React Native Testing Library.
  • Experience building and maintaining scalable automation frameworks (not just writing tests).
  • Experience managing physical device labs or running tests at scale across multiple devices/OS versions.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps preferred).
  • Experience troubleshooting test failures and environmental issues.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

What’s In It For You:

  • Medical, Dental and Vision insurance for you and your family
  • Relax and recharge with Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • 6 company-observed paid holidays, plus 3 paid floating holidays
  • 401k (after 90 days) plus employer match up to 4%
  • Pet Insurance for your furry family members
  • Wellness perks including onsite fitness equipment at both locations, EAP, and access to the Headspace App
  • We invest in your future through Tuition Reimbursement
  • Save on taxes with Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Peace of mind with Life and AD&D Insurance
  • Protect yourself with company paid Long-Term Disability and voluntary Short-Term Disability
