Job description

ICS Online. ("ICS") is an industry leader in the manufacturing of custom Industrial Control Panels and factory automation systems. These industries include but are not limited to energy generation and storage, semiconductor, food and beverage processing and packaging, water and wastewater treatment, and factory automation. ICS is part of Cleanwater1 and through its various operating subsidiaries, is one of the most dynamic and fastest growing companies in the water infrastructure market.
The Applications Engineer is a full-time position based in our Ripon, California facility reporting directly to the Application Engineering Manager. The Applications Engineer will be responsible for providing process applications engineering and sales support to the Sales team. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with customer-centric personality, strong communication skills, and MS Office proficiency. A preference will be provided to those that have been directly involved in developing technical support for similar products lines in the municipal or industrial market and have had sales and business development experience with other closely related technologies.
Essential Job Functions
  • Work directly with the sales team to provide engineering design support for Industrial Control Panel Systems based on customer needs, technical resources, design specifications, and budgetary constraints.
  • Develop proposals including design scope, pricing, and Bill of materials.
  • Prepare detailed material and labor cost estimates for design and supply of equipment per written specifications.
  • Develop proposals, including process descriptions, work scopes, Component List, technical clarifications and exceptions to the bid documents, and pricing, in order to fulfill the requirements of customer specifications.
  • Ability to understand Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Electrical Diagrams, and General Arrangements (GAs) for equipment layouts.
  • Assess project risk, review warranty requirements and prepare recommendations to management for approval.
  • Maintain accurate records of proposals, quotes, contacts, and correspondences in company database.
  • Collaborate with the R&D team on special projects to develop and evaluate new Control Panel Products.
  • Work with the engineering team to design Control Panels based on specification and proposal.
  • Assist with projects by designing and conducting research; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, and components conferring with vendors.
  • Develop and maintain Operation and Maintenance manuals for new and existing product lines; detail step by step operations and troubleshooting guides.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Two to five years' engineering experience in the industrial electronics field.
  • Understanding of electrical schematics and component function.
  • Understanding of PLCs, VFDs, and other control systems.
  • Ability to work well with others with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent technical writing skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with Vendors.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in applications or a sales support role that included bidding, Industrial control systems.
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in electrical engineering or related degree.
  • Technical Electronics or industrial electronics degree.
  • Experience or knowledge of electricity and control panels, especially component selection.
  • Identify and define system design requirements.
  • Experience in electrical design;
  • Experience with customer relationship management software (Salesforce).

Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to look at computer monitors for much of the workday.

Work Environment
  • Approximately 95% Office.
  • Approximately 5% Light Industrial - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, chemicals and industrial facilities. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.

This is an exempt position. Compensation is dependent on skill level. The base salary range for this position is between $75,000 and $95,000 per year. Benefits package and incentives are provided. We generally offer employees working 21 hours per work or more medical, dental, vision, along with voluntary ancillary benefits.
