What does a software application trainer do?

A Software Application Trainer is responsible for teaching individuals or groups how to effectively use specific software programs. They develop training materials, conduct hands-on sessions, and provide support to help users become proficient with the applications. Trainers often tailor their sessions to the audience’s skill level, answer technical questions, and may also assess learners' progress. Their goal is to ensure users can utilize the software efficiently to enhance productivity in their roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software application trainer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Application Trainer, you need a solid understanding of software platforms, instructional design, and adult learning principles, often supported by a relevant degree or technical certifications. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), presentation software, and virtual training tools is typically required. Strong communication, patience, and adaptability enable trainers to effectively engage learners with diverse backgrounds and skill levels. These skills ensure effective knowledge transfer, user adoption, and successful implementation of software solutions.

How does a software application trainer typically collaborate with development and support teams to improve training materials?

Software Application Trainers often work closely with development and support teams to ensure training content remains accurate and up-to-date. By gathering feedback from end-users and observing common support issues, trainers can identify areas where users struggle and relay this information to developers. This collaborative approach helps trainers update manuals, tutorials, and courseware to address real-world user challenges, resulting in more effective training sessions. Regular communication with these teams also allows trainers to stay informed about new features or updates that should be incorporated into their instruction.

Job description

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The Senior Software Developer plays a key role in designing and delivering enterprise software solutions that connect systems, improve business processes, and support operations across Jensen Infrastructure.

Reporting to the Software Development Manager, you'll work closely with Business Analysts, business stakeholders, and fellow developers to solve complex business challenges through thoughtful application design, API integrations, automation, and modern development practices. You'll also bring senior-level technical judgment to the team, helping guide solutions and supporting the growth of other developers.

A highlight of your day-to-day will include:

  • Designing and implementing APIs and system integrations that connect enterprise applications and move data reliably between systems.
  • Designing and developing web applications, including PHP-based solutions, that support employees and business operations.
  • Using AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development while applying the experience and technical judgment needed to review, validate, and improve generated code.
  • Partnering with Business Analysts and business stakeholders to translate operational needs into practical, scalable software solutions.
  • Providing senior-level technical guidance through solution design, code reviews, development standards, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
  • Supporting and mentoring other developers while contributing to a collaborative team environment focused on delivering high-quality solutions.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You're an experienced software developer who enjoys solving complex problems, building useful applications, and collaborating with others to deliver technology that makes work easier. You bring strong technical judgment, communicate well with both technical and non-technical partners, and are comfortable giving and receiving direct feedback while keeping the team's goals in focus.

We're looking for someone who wants more than their next coding assignment. This is an opportunity to take on challenging development work, help shape solutions, mentor others, and contribute to the technology supporting a growing organization. You'll have the autonomy to own your work, the opportunity to influence how solutions are built, and a team that values candid communication, accountability, and continuous learning. In our culture — everyone matters.

Required qualifications include:

  • Seven or more years of progressive professional software development experience.
  • Professional PHP development experience.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing APIs and software integrations.
  • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools, such as Claude Code or Codex, as part of the development process, with the technical depth to review and validate the resulting code.
  • Demonstrated professional software development experience independent of AI-assisted coding tools.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a software development team.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Symfony or another modern PHP development framework.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring other software developers.
  • Experience developing enterprise applications in manufacturing, distribution, supply chain, or ERP environments.
  • Salesforce development experience, including Apex, is a plus.
  • Experience with additional technologies such as Python, Linux, Apache, MySQL, Docker, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Flutter, REST APIs, Git/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, or Microsoft Azure.

ALL ABOUT JENSEN INFRASTRUCTURE

Much like you, our founder, Don Jensen was looking for a way to support his family, so he started his Company in 1968. Since founded, we've been supporting communities across Arizona, California, Hawaii, Missouri, Nevada, and Washington.

Jensen Infrastructure likely has an impact on your daily life. We build culverts to take water away from your neighborhoods, underground utility boxes to hold cables, and manholes to allow workers access to the sewers deep below the roads we drive on. And that's just a small sample of what we do at Jensen on a daily basis.

When you work at one of Jensen's many locations, you will enjoy the close relationships and camaraderie of a small company while being part of a larger, well-established, growing company.

We are committed to ensuring employment practices that promote equal opportunities. Please let us know if you require any reasonable accommodations during your interview process.

We consider a wide variety of factors when making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education, training, certifications, and other relevant business and organizational factors.

Additional Compensation and Benefits: Jensen Infrastructure offers a competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) with Company match. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Jensen's Short-Term Incentive Plan (STIP), subject to the terms of the applicable plan. Incentive awards are based on a variety of factors, including individual and Company performance.
