We have the unique opportunity for a Vice President to help launch the Agricultural Commodities business in North America, with a focus on Soft Commodities. The broad mandate to grow market share in Commodities will require the candidate to utilize knowledge of physical and financial soft commodities markets to price, execute and manage derivatives and financing transactions for BMO's corporate and investor client base. This role includes direct responsibility for actively managing non-linear and linear risk, providing fundamental insight, and working as part of our Global team. The candidate also identifies opportunities for increased efficiency and improved service to internal and external clients and implements positive change within the business unit.
Group Overview
The Commodities Trading group is a team within Global Markets' Global Origination business responsible for managing and executing hedging and financing transactions for BMO's investor, corporate and commercial clients. Working closely with the Commodities Sales Team as well as investment, corporate and commercial banking, the trading team serves as product experts with a coverage universe including futures, swaps, basis, options, and exotic derivatives. The ideal candidate for this role will be a proven soft commodities trader today.
Key Areas of Accountability
Transaction Modelling & Financial Analysis:
    • Use abilities in financial and fundamental analysis to communicate effectively and succinctly with Commodities Sales and clients to facilitate deals
    • Develop marketing ideas and help initiate transactions through appropriate presentation of data
    • Understand all software systems for trading and pricing transactions
    • Develop, maintain, and build-out fundamental models

Skills:
    • Minimum 5 years experience managing an active book of Agricultural Commodity Derivatives, with a focus on soft commodities
    • Minimum 5 years experience structuring and managing inventory financing transactions, including deliverable and non-deliverable products
    • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) including listening, understanding, and responding to internal and external inquiries
    • Expertise in financial computer applications including MS Excel, VBA, and Bloomberg. Strong proficiency in other Microsoft Office products.
    • Able to exercise independent thought and judgment under limited supervision and to adapt to new tasks with little notice
    • Creative, insightful, and eager to learn
    • Experience developing North American and/or Global supply/demand models across different Agricultural Commodity markets
    • Collaborate with Engineering team to design pricing and risk management tools
    • Experience in Livestock or Dairy a plus

Knowledge:
    • Demonstrates strong knowledge of soft commodities and the Agricultural markets - financial and physical
    • Thorough knowledge of derivatives including options
    • Knowledge of banking and risk concepts as well as derivative regulations
    • Current on existing and emerging Industry trends around the world
    • Relevant experience and passion for working in a market-making, direct client-facing role

Collaboration:
    • Be a strong partner within the Commodities Team to share market information and solve problems
    • Act as a subject matter expert in soft commodities to support platform build out
    • Build relationships with product partners across Global Markets to provide/solicit cross-product mandates for new opportunities
    • Continuously coach and mentor Analysts and Associates
    • Ensure high levels of client satisfaction through strong cross-department coordination with the following groups:

      • I&CB
      • Commercial Banking
      • Global Markets Engineering
      • Trade Floor Supervision
      • Market Risk
      • Client Onboarding

The base salary for this specific role in New York is $260,000.
