SUMMARY
The Department of Social Work at SUNY Brockport seeks a full-time, 10 month, tenure-track Instructor to support its CSWE-accredited undergraduate Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program. The successful candidate will be a dedicated educator and mentor committed to excellence in teaching, service, and student engagement. They will play a key role in advancing the department's mission to prepare ethical, competent, and socially just generalist practitioners who are equipped to make a meaningful impact in their communities. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2027.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Teaching (70%)

• Teaches a 4-4 course load each academic year. For these purposes, a course refers to a 3-credit course or equivalent.
• Delivers undergraduate social work courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats, as assigned.
• Maintains instructional materials and assessment practices consistent with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS).
• Employs evidence-informed and student-centered pedagogical approaches.
• Uses student instructional assessment survey (IAS) results to inform continuous improvement.
• Provides academic advising, mentoring, and support to undergraduate students.
• Maintains regular office hours.

Scholarly Activities (5-10%)

• Engages in scholarly activities to produce scholarly publications, presentations, and related scholarly work.
• Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current in the field.

Service (20-25%)

• Engages in service to the Department of Social Work, School, and College, as assigned by the Department Chair.
• Contributes to shared governance and institutional service.
• Participates in service to the social work profession and community through professional organizations, community partnerships, and related activities.
• Participates in departmental meetings and committees, assessment activities, and accreditation efforts, and serves on college level committees.
• Supports recruitment, retention, orientation, and student engagement initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:

• Master of Social Work (MSW) degree by the time of appointment from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or from an internationally recognized college or university
• Minimum of two years of post-MSW professional social work practice experience
• Experience advising and mentoring diverse student populations
• Experience teaching college courses in classroom and/or online environments
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and community partners

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS)
• Record of service to institutions, communities, and/or professional organizations

Retirement

• NYS Employees' Retirement System (ERS) and NYS Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) - Defined benefit plans; benefits are based on best Final Average Salary and years of service.
• SUNY Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) - Defined contribution plan; benefits are based on the employer and employee contributions and the success of the investments. Employer contribution is 8% of salary for first seven years of service, 10% thereafter.

Membership for full-time and permanent employees is mandatory. All full-time employees are eligible to elect ERS or the ORP; employees in teaching, librarian, or coach (including assistant) titles are also eligible for TRS and may choose any of the three plans.
