They often help with policy development, program evaluation, staff training, and improving service delivery. These professionals bring specialized knowledge to address complex social issues, ensure compliance with regulations, and promote effective social work interventions. Social Work Consultants may work independently or as part of consulting firms, and they typically have extensive experience and advanced degrees in social work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a social work consultant?

Job description

Thanks for your interest in Children's Mercy!

Do you envision finding a meaningful role with an inclusive and compassionate team? At Children’s Mercy, we believe in making a difference in the lives of all children and shining a light of hope to the patients and families we serve. Our employees make the difference, which is why we have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a top pediatric hospital, for eleven consecutive years.

Children’s Mercy is in the heart of Kansas City – a metro abounding in cultural experiences, vibrant communities and thriving businesses. This is where our patients and families live, work and play. This is a community that has embraced our hospital and we strive to say thanks by giving back. As a leader in children’s health, we engage in meaningful programs and partnerships throughout the region so that we can improve the lives of children beyond the walls of our hospital.

Overview

The Team for Infants Exposed to Substance use (TIES) Program is an intensive home-based partnership with pregnant and postpartum women and their families affected by maternal substance use. The program provides social work and parent educator specialists who partner with families to create a mutually designed plan that is both individualized and comprehensive and builds on family strengths to meet family’s identified goals. Staff provide direct services (e.g. counseling, crisis intervention, transportation, support for substance use treatment, connection to health care) and help coordinate the services of other community agencies (e.g. substance use treatment, child welfare, criminal justice) as well.

The TIES Program Supervisor is responsible for administrative, clinical, and reflective supervision of all TIES clinical staff. In addition, the Supervisor is an integral part of the TIES and Community Programs management teams and consistently works to identify, plan and implement strategies to enhance services to families.

  • Clinical supervision focuses on supporting job performance through the review and discussion of specific cases. This discussion tends to focus on the needs of the participant and how to best meet those needs. Within clinical supervision, some administrative interactions are included, as well as support for the professional development of the practitioner.
  • Reflective supervision shifts the focus solely from relationships with the families participating in the program. Reflective supervision considers the importance of understanding how each of these relationships affects the others. Providing a safe space to process the emotional weight, slow down the work, and to promote curiosity and wondering about how members of the multiple relationships are experiencing their participation enhances reflection, helps prevent burnout, and builds empathy.

At Children’s Mercy, we are committed to ensuring that everyone feels welcomed within our walls. A successful candidate for this position will join us as we strive to create a workplace that reflects the community we serve, as well as our core values of kindness, curiosity, inclusion, team and integrity.

Additionally, it’s important to us that we remain transparent with all potential job candidates. Because we value the safety of the patients and families we serve, as well as the Children’s Mercy staff, we want to let you know that the seasonal influenza vaccine is a condition of employment for all employees in our organization. New employees must be willing to be vaccinated if found non-immune to measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and chicken pox (varicella) and/or without evidence of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination since 2005. If you are selected for this position, you will be asked to supply your immunization records as proof of vaccination. If you and have any concerns about receiving these vaccines, medical and/or religious exemptions can be further discussed with Human Resources.
