Department Chair needed for:
Social Studies Department
Primary Responsibility:
Provide instructional leadership, support, and assistance to all teachers in the department.
General Job Description and Responsibilities
  1. Provides leadership in curriculum development, instruction, and assessment .
  2. Assists the administration in the coordination and utilization of department staff.
  3. Participates when possible in the interviewing and hiring of new staff in the department/grade level.
  4. Oversees the proper handling of departmental funds.
  5. Oversees the textbook adoption process, including the selection, materials, supplies, equipment and facilities.
  6. Maintains and inventories department/grade level books, supplies and equipment and submits requisitions when necessary.
  7. Assists departmental/grade level teachers with concerns relating to subject matter, procedures and policies within the department and throughout the school.
  8. Serves as liaison between administration, teachers, parents and students regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs as the need arises.
  9. May serve as a member of the School Improvement Team.
  10. Assists substitute teachers.
  11. Schedules and conducts departmental/grade level meetings. [Leads PLC meeting]
  12. Assists in coordination of staff development activities.
  13. Promote departmental curricular offerings (secondary)
  14. Assumes any additional responsibilities as assigned by the principal/administrator.
