Social Media Rater information

What is a social media rater?

A Social Media Rater is a person who evaluates and provides feedback on the quality and relevance of content found on social media platforms. Their main job is to assess posts, ads, and search results to help improve the accuracy and usefulness of social media algorithms. Social Media Raters typically work remotely, following specific guidelines to determine whether content aligns with community standards and user expectations. This role helps companies refine their platforms and enhance user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a social media rater, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Social Media Rater, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in English, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with social media platforms, web browsers, and specific rating tools or guidelines provided by employers is typically required. Excellent time management, critical thinking, and the ability to follow detailed instructions are crucial soft skills that set candidates apart. These skills are important to ensure accurate content evaluation and help improve the relevance and quality of social media feeds for end users.

What are some common challenges faced by social media raters, and how can they be managed?

Social Media Raters often encounter challenges such as evaluating content that may be ambiguous, culturally nuanced, or rapidly changing in relevance. Staying up-to-date on current events and understanding local context is essential to make accurate judgments. To manage these challenges, raters should regularly review training materials, actively participate in quality feedback sessions, and seek clarification from team leaders when in doubt. Collaborating with other raters through forums or group discussions can also provide valuable insights and support.

  • Real-Time Engagement amp; Conversation: Proactively monitor and engage with comments, direct messages, and story replies across platforms (with a focus on Instagram). Respond with empathy, answer questions, and facilitate positive discussions.

  • Engagement Analytics amp; Insights: Track, analyze, and report on key engagement metrics (reply rates, poll participation, shares, saves) to understand community sentiment and refine our approach to connection.
  • Crisis amp; Community Management: Uphold our community guidelines with grace, defuse potential conflicts, and escalate sensitive issues appropriately, ensuring our digital spaces remain safe and uplifting.
  • Collaborative Campaign Support: Work hand-in-hand with the content and marketing teams to design engagement tactics that support live broadcasts, events, teaching series, and fundraising initiatives. Required Qualifications:
Experience:
2+ years of experience in a social media role with a proven track record of growing engagement metrics and building online community. Experience in ministry, nonprofit, or community-focused brands is highly preferred.
Technical amp; Platform Expertise:

  • A data-informed approach to community building, balancing analytics with human intuition.
  • Ability to work nimbly, creating and responding to content in real-time throughout the day.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to brand voice and spiritual tone.
Soft Skills: A genuine heart for ministry and alignment with Daystar’s mission. You are an empathetic listener, a proactive problem-solver, and a collaborative team player who thrives on human connection.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with social listening tools and sentiment analysis.
  • Experience creating basic, engaging video content for stories (using CapCut, InShot, etc.).
  • Knowledge of the broader social media landscape (Facebook, YouTube Community Tab, TikTok).
  • Familiarity with Salesforce Social Studio or similar CRM-integrated social tools. What We Offer:
  • Competitive Compensation amp; Benefits: Salary commensurate with experience. Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage; 403(b) with company match
  • Meaningful Ministry: Your work directly nurtures the spiritual journey of our global community.
  • Central Role: Be the vital link between Daystar and its audience, with a direct impact on our digital culture.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to cover live events and community activity.
  • Requires a normal range of hearing and vision. Must be able to walk and sit for a period of time. Must be able to work extended hours as assigned.
