This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.
This role will support the planning and production of social-first content for 3M brand channels, advancing enterprise campaigns and business priorities. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience creating content for social platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, along with strong storytelling, video editing, and collaboration skills.
The impact you will make in this role
As our Social Content Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. In this role, you will:
  • Create social-first content from concept through execution, including storyboarding, shooting, editing, and formatting for platform use
  • Capture and edit engaging content for 3M social channels, particularly TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and LinkedIn, using video, stills, audio, and other approved assets
  • Support real-time content capture at events and other priority moments, ensuring timely delivery of assets
  • Produce content that aligns with 3M brand standards, editorial guidance, and platform best practices
  • Ensure required releases and supporting materials are completed and stored appropriately in designated systems
  • Support content planning across integrated teams for priority topics, campaigns, and key moments
  • Monitor social trends and contribute platform-specific recommendations based on trending content, audience behavior, and channel performance insights
  • Support social community management and community building to drive positive brand-customer relationship and to maintain the brand's reputation
  • Monitor for User-Generated Content (UGC) opportunities on social
  • Support development of content concepts from creative briefs, trends, and business needs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to develop content, incorporate feedback, secure approvals and drive integrated execution

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in communications, marketing, journalism, media production, or general business (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Two (2) years of experience in social media and content creation in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and platforms
  • Experience creating engaging social-first content across multiple platforms in a brand, organizational, freelance, or agency setting
  • Experience using social media management platforms/tools
  • Understanding of social platform differences (i.e. Instagram vs. LinkedIn vs. TikTok) and platform-specific trends, audience, and content styles
  • Basic proficiency in video and photo capture and editing tools
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members and cross-functional partners
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
  • Ability to use data and performance insights to inform content recommendations and improvements
  • Understanding of brand, editorial, and platform guidelines

  • Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
