Job description

Description
Sugar Bowl Resort is seeking a confident, organized, and guest-obsessed Snowsports School Supervisor to help lead daily operations at one of California's most beloved independent ski resorts. This is a dynamic, on-the-ground leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced alpine environment, leads by example, and finds genuine satisfaction in creating seamless experiences for both guests and staff.
You'll be the operational backbone of the Snowsports School: coordinating schedules, directing guest flow, overseeing lesson placement, and ensuring that every guest from first-timers to seasoned shredders gets exactly where they need to be, safely and on time. When things don't go as planned (because mountains have a way of doing that), you stay calm, think on your feet, and turn challenges into moments that guests remember for the right reasons.
Why Sugar Bowl?
Sugar Bowl Resort has been proudly independent for over 80 years and is one of the oldest ski resorts in California. Situated atop beautiful Donner Summit, Sugar Bowl has a storied past with ties to Austrian ski culture, Hollywood and Walt Disney. This special community helped bring skiing to "sunny California" since December 1939. Since then, it continues to attract adventurous winter sports enthusiasts alike.
Who you are
You're a seasoned resort professional with leadership experience and a deep understanding of how a Snowsports School operates from the inside. You lead with clarity and warmth, communicate effectively in high-pressure moments, and bring a resort-wide perspective to every decision you make. You know how to read a lineup, manage a schedule, handle a frustrated guest, and still have energy left to support your team at the end of the day.
You're comfortable on snow, comfortable on a radio, and comfortable in charge.
Experience & Qualifications:
• PSIA/AASI Level 1 certification or equivalent required
• 3+ years of resort industry experience
• Ability to ski or ride safely and confidently around the full resort in all conditions
• Excellent verbal, written, and radio communication skills
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
• Computer proficiency including MS Office; ability to learn RTP and Flaik scheduling software
• Ability to build strong, positive relationships both within the Snowsports School and across resort departments
• Resort-wide leadership perspective - you see the bigger picture and make decisions with the whole guest experience in mind
• Must be available to work weekends and holidays
Bonus Points:
• PSIA/AASI Level 2 certification or equivalent
• PSIA/AASI Children's Specialist Level 1 or equivalent
• Knowledge of ski mechanics and teaching methodology
• RTP platform competency
• Flaik platform competency
• Relevant formal leadership or supervisory experience
What you will do
Daily Operations & Guest Flow
• Oversee smooth implementation of daily outdoor operations including staff lineups, lesson splits, class organization, and guest lesson pick-up - ensuring everything runs on time and on plan
• Direct guest flow efficiently and ensure every guest is placed in the correct level lesson with a qualified instructor
• Lead daily meetings, briefings, and operational check-ins with Snowsports School staff
• Conduct on-hill observations and lesson oversight to ensure quality, safety, and consistency of instruction
• Serve as a frontline resource for guest questions, concerns, and recoveries - turning difficult moments into positive resort experiences
• Ensure safe practices are always exercised and enforced across all Snowsports School operations
Staff Leadership & Development
• Support performance management of instructors and staff, including coaching, feedback, and documentation
• Drive staff development and training initiatives in alignment with school-wide goals and Sugar Bowl values
• Schedule staff appropriately based on business levels, guest volume, and operational needs using Flaik and other tools
• Model and reinforce a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement
Operational & Facility Management
• Implement and uphold all Snowsports School and resort policy and procedure guidelines
• Contribute to meeting departmental goals across safety, NPS, EOS, fiscal performance, and staffing benchmarks
• Maintain Snowsports School facilities including cleanliness, minor repairs, and monthly inspections
• Perform snow removal as needed to maintain safe and accessible operational areas
• Support cross-departmental initiatives and ensure a consistently positive resort-wide guest experience
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding, outdoor leadership role performed on the mountain and around resort facilities in Sierra Nevada winter conditions. Candidates must be able to meet the following requirements:
• Prolonged physical activity on snow including skiing, riding, walking in ski boots, and standing on varied terrain
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions typical of Donner Summit - including heavy snowfall, high winds, freezing temperatures, ice, flat light, and reduced visibility - full days, every scheduled shift
• Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to perform snow removal and general physical facility maintenance tasks as needed
• Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to monitor staff, guests, and mountain conditions across a wide operational area
• Must be able to safely tolerate sustained exposure to heavy winter weather
Winter Benefits
• Seasonal training opportunity
• Tiered equipment reimbursement based on qualifying hours, available upon return the following season
• Certification reimbursement, available upon return the following season
