SMYTH COUNTY SCHOOLS
POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:  Speech Language Pathologist Assistant


LOCATION: Various Schools PAYGRADE: Instructional Aide IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
Principal and Director of Special Education
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

General Definition of Work:

  • The SLP Assistant works to implement plans for students with speech language impairments under the supervision of the Speech Language Pathologist.

Performance expectations:
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following actions:

  • Complete speech and language component of IEP, including strength/needs and targeted objectives in VA IEP as designed by the Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Provide therapy as directed by the supervising SLP.
  • Participate in professional development and staff training activities.
  • Assist the SLP in scheduling IEP meetings and communicating with parents.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all school board employees, professional and administrative staff, and the general public.

Education and Experience:

  • Teaching License, Special Education Area Preferred.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with school board policy and administrative procedures for the evaluation of professional personnel.
