General Description OPENED TO FILL VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR. 40 HOURS PER WEEK POSITION Public Works: Under regular supervision, performs various entry-level and manual maintenance duties required in support of the department. Work involves cleaning and repairing drains; flushing out drains; mixing cement; weed eating drains and culverts; performing asphalt work; and operating assigned equipment.

Reports to the Foreman. Wastewater: Under regular supervision, performs various entry-level and manual maintenance duties required in support of the department. Work involves sidewalk and driveway apron repairs/replacements, performing asphalt work, cleaning and repairing sewer lines; flushing sewer lines; mixing cement; smoke testing sewer lines; operating assigned equipment and assisting other Wastewater Department Divisions when needed.

Reports to the Superintendent I. Duties of Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS DUTIES VARY DEPENDING ON THE WORK PERFORMED IN A SPECIFIC DEPARTMENT/DIVISION AND REQUIRED FOR A SPECIFIC POSITION. PUBLIC WORKS EXAMPLES MIGHT INCLUDE: Cleans ditches.

Lays tack; shovels, rakes, and/or rolls asphalt. Lays pipes for drainage. Levels grounds.

Operates dump truck. Removes debris and trash from drains and grounds. Responds to citizens' calls.

Ensures all tools necessary for the job are available. Installs and repairs sprinkler systems. Maintains gardens and palm trees.

Maintains journals. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as work orders, calls on the radio, and job locations. Prepares and/or processes various records and report such as vehicle sign in / out, maintenance checklist, work orders, equipment needed, and materials list.

Refers to schedule, maps / directions, Foreman's knowledge, policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as roller, backhoe, jackhammer, pick up truck, weed eater, hedge trimmer, chainsaw, blower, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as shovel, rake, cones / signs, hammer, broom, pipe cutter, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as cement, asphalt, sand, tack, dirt, pipes, glue, primer, weed eater parts, weed killer, etc

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Foreman, Equipment Operator, Truck Driver, coworkers, and the general public. WASTEWATER EXAMPLES MIGHT INCLUDE: Construction Worker I's perform a variety of work according to assigned work and/or supervisor. Operates and maintains equipment associated with the operation of a wastewater collection system

Verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and takes corrective action. Accurately completes all equipment work orders. Assures work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures.

Performs cleanup and housekeeping tasks for work area, tools and equipment. Performs related duties as needed. PARKS AND RECREATION EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Performs maintenance/construction tasks individually or in a crew in such diverse areas as streets, drainage, parkways, recreation maintenance, building/grounds maintenance, etc.

Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as custodian supply list, leave request forms, call reports, etc. Operates a variety of equipment and machinery and drives a variety of vehicles which vary by department. Uses a variety of tools.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Foreman, coworkers, office personnel, and the general public. Minimum Qualifications PUBLIC WORKS: Requires nine to twelve months of construction operation experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a valid State driver's license.

WASTEWATER: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent that is approved by the Louisiana Department of Education with nine to twelve months of construction operation experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a valid State driver's license. NOTE: ALL POSITIONS REQUIRE A CURRENT, VALID LOUISIANA DRIVER'S LICENSE.

SOME POSITION MAY REQUIRE HIGH CLASS LICENSES (CLASSES A, B, C, OR D) DUE TO THE VEHICLE(S) DRIVEN. VACANCIES WILL BE FILLED SELECTIVELY BASED ON THE LICENSE/EDUCATION EACH POSITION IS REQUIRED TO POSSESS. NON-COMPETITIVE - ALL CANDIDATES MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND ANY NECESSARY SELECTIVE CRITERIA WILL BE CERTIFIED TO THE VACANCY.
