Job description

Smith & Loveless is united under one cause: “Protecting Water. Protecting People.”  We are seeking a Warehouse Worker / Material Handler (1st or 2nd Shift) to partner with our experience warehouse team in this environmentally focused industry.

A Warehouse Worker / Material Handler at Smith and Loveless will operate material handling equipment to move, load and unload materials as necessary using forklifts, cranes, tractor/trailers, trucks, etc. and manually move materials and finished products to storage, production, and loadout. 

**Both shifts are Monday thru Friday. 1st shift hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm and 2nd shift is 4:00 pm to 12:30 am**

Job duties

  • Moves and inventories materials within factory areas or outside production facilities as assigned and prepares for shipping.
  • Observes all safety rules and regulations and keeps equipment and area clean and orderly.
  • Works from verbal instructions, bills of material, material requisitions and other documents.
  • Unload and load purchased materials and/or manufactured products from or onto trailers and rail cars.
  • Manually move some materials and secure load(s) with chains, binders, and straps and performs hooking operations.
  • Reports abnormal conditions or material and equipment to supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Operates material handling equipment in rigging, pick-up or delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Constructs crates, boxes, and forms.
  • Checks equipment before operating (i.e., tires, gas, oil, water)
  • Weighs and labels as required for shipment or storage.
  • Stores or issues materials from or to designated areas as directed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Warehouse Supervisor and Warehouse Manager.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.

Skills/Requirements

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Previous warehouse experience required. Manufacturing warehouse experience preferred.
  • Previous forklift experience and certification required.
  • Ability to read work orders, pull material and count inventory.
  • Demonstrated good work attendance. 
  • Must be able to work diligently and maintain urgency to complete tasks timely.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Must be able to read and use a tape measure.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the role include the ability to distinguish the nature of objects by using the eye.
  • Ability to ascend and descend two (2) flights of stairs.
