Summary/Objective The Smith County District Attorney's Office is seeking applications for a full time misdemeanor prosecutor position. The selected candidate will handle all aspects of misdemeanor prosecution including case intake, bond hearings, plea negotiations, trial preparation, jury/bench trials, and probation revocation hearings. This is an excellent position for those who want to gain trial experience or desire to begin a career in prosecution.

Prosecutors gain a wealth of experience while surrounded by more seasoned lawyers who can help develop the skills and talents of new lawyers. Attorneys who begin their careers in the Smith County District Attorney's Office have proven record of success even when they venture out into other areas of law.Our office fosters a positive and collaborative environment where attorneys gain valuable trial experience

The misdemeanor division is composed of six prosecutors supported by a Chief with significant experience. Misdemeanor prosecutors also receive exposure to felony cases through our mentoring program. The Smith County District Attorney's Office is located in Tyler, TX.

Tyler is the largest city in Northeast Texas, and the Greater Tyler area has a population of 249,000. Tyler boasts a wide variety of dining options, entertainment, and excellent outdoor activities. Tyler is also an hour and a half from Dallas and two hours from Shreveport.
