Job description

As a Bus Driver assigned to the Fort Bragg Pope Army Airfield, the 2nd shift Bus Driver (6pm-6am Saturday and Sunday) is responsible for safely transporting passengers and baggage to locations in and around the Fort Bragg area of operation.


Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. 

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

  • Complies with all Department of Transportation (DOT), North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV), to include safety and licensing requirements.
  • Performs before/during/after, operator level operations and safety equipment checks/inspections.
  • Ensures all safety equipment is on-hand and serviceable.
  • Drives passengers and baggage in and around the Fort Bragg and Pope Army Airfield area of operations.
  • Assist passengers with baggage.
  • Ensures that passenger travel is safe and timely.
  • Work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays; and works overtime as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives.
  • Job duties and responsibilities may change due to contractual requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of weather in a controlled traffic environment.
  • Drivers are exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Personal Protection Equipment, such as Face mask (covering the nose and mouth), safety shoes (non - skid), vest and eye wear.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and assist passengers with baggage.
  • Must be able to work under timelines.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid REAL ID State Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with a Passenger endorsement with no restrictions.
  • Current Medical Examiner’s certificate and/or medical variance documents (i.e. Vision, Skills Performance or Diabetic waivers, or other exemptions)
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment and DOT medical/drug screening.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI Tier 1 Public Trust.
  • Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a U.S. Passport.
  • Must be able to maintain driving privileges aboard the Fort Bragg Installation and Fort Bragg POPE Army Airfield

EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1) year of progressively responsible related experience, or any combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • One (1) year working as a commercial driver.

SKILLS:

  • Effective organizational, analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand.
  • Listen to others and ask questions.
  • Understand written information.
  • Problem solves - Notice when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Concentrate and not be distracted while performing a task.
  • Ability to follow guidelines both on post and off post.
  • Know one's location in a physical setting and recognize where other objects are located in relation to oneself.
  • Ability to watch gauges, dials, and output to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Radio etiquette
  • Working within a team and independently.
