Job description

About the Role:
As a CBRE Technical Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping how the workplace performs and feels. You will manage and inspire a high-impact digital engineering team focused on optimizing energy consumption, driving operational excellence, and elevating on-site employee comfort across a campus of buildings.
This role blends technical leadership with innovation, overseeing mechanical operations, preventive maintenance, energy management strategies, and workforce development initiatives. You'll be at the forefront of creating efficient, resilient building systems while ensuring a safe, comfortable, and engaging environment for employees every day.
As part of CBRE's Engineering and Technical Services function, you'll help keep critical equipment and systems running at their best - supporting sustainable operations, continuous improvement, and exceptional workplace experience.
What You'll Do:
  • Provide formal supervision and leadership to digital engineering staff, including onboarding, training, development, performance evaluations, succession planning, and hiring to build a high-performing, future-ready team.
  • Coordinate and manage the team's daily activities by establishing work schedules, prioritizing assignments, and cross-training staff to ensure operational continuity, responsiveness, and technical depth across all building systems.
  • Oversee operations and maintenance for assigned facilities, including planning and supporting operating and capital budgets, identifying lifecycle investments, and aligning resources to maximize system performance and reliability.
  • Lead Building Automation System (BAS) integrations, ensuring seamless connectivity across HVAC and building systems to support centralized monitoring, control, and optimization of building performance.
  • Leverage historical, real-time, and trending data from BAS and related systems to analyze building performance, anticipate HVAC and system needs, and deliver data-driven, predictive recommendations that enhance energy efficiency and improve occupant comfort.
  • Identify system inefficiencies and proactively recommend and prioritize repairs and upgrades that reduce energy consumption, extend asset life, and support sustainability and energy-management goals.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs, ensuring documentation, safety procedures, and building-specific manuals are accurate, current, and actionable.
  • Coordinate maintenance and improvement efforts with external contractors, vendors, and technical specialists to ensure quality execution, compliance, and minimal disruption to on-site operations.
  • Oversee and ensure optimal performance of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire/life-safety systems, while staying current with emerging technologies and smart-building solutions.
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication with tenants, clients, owners, vendors, and the facility management team to align expectations, share insights, and deliver a best-in-class workplace experience.
  • Support the acquisition of new management contracts and maintain accurate as-built drawings, system documentation, and operational records.
  • Respond to emergency situations and customer concerns with urgency and professionalism, applying technical expertise and sound judgment to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Lead by example, modeling behaviors aligned with CBRE RISE values, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve daily operational challenges and moderately complex system issues, applying technical expertise and cross-functional knowledge to drive sustainable solutions.

What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred with 3-5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on technical experience.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, building operations, and how building performance impacts energy efficiency, reliability, and occupant comfort.
  • Demonstrated experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) or Building Management Systems (BMS), including how these systems function, integrate, and generate operational and performance data.
  • Working knowledge of data structures and system data outputs, with the ability to interpret historical, real-time, and trending data to support operational decisions, predictive insights, and energy optimization initiatives.
  • Experience leveraging digital tools and platforms to analyze building and system performance; experience with Microsoft Azure or cloud-based data environments is a plus.
  • Proven experience in staffing, coaching, mentoring, and performance management, with the ability to lead technical teams effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences including engineers, vendors, clients, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), with strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Highly organized and inquisitive mindset, with a continuous-improvement approach to problem-solving, technology adoption, and operational excellence.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
