Job description

Small Engine Repair Mechanic
Reports to: Store Manager, Assistant Manager, or Supervisor on duty.
Classification: Non-Exempt / Hourly, Part-Time
JOB SUMMARY:
Determines the extent of necessary repairs and performs service for mechanical malfunctions on push and riding lawn mowers, chain saws, tillers, weed eaters, and related power equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Communicate product information clearly and effectively to our customers.
  • Able to review equipment manuals and warranties accurately.
  • Place special orders for required parts as needed.
  • Maintain Stihl, Cub Cadet and other vendor sales logbooks and complete warranty documentation.
  • Contact customers for repair approval after the extent of repair needed is determined.
  • Follow Safety Compliance procedures such as wearing safety glasses and storing various fuels in clearly marked containers, along with the ability to be “Tow Motor” certified.
  • Maintain neat, safe, and well-organized shop and storage areas.
  • Able to set up and assemble new equipment.
  • Stock merchandise, unload semis, retrieve carts, maintain the lot, and help customers with loadouts.
  • Able to use both hand and power tools as needed.
  • Tolerate exposure to hazardous chemicals such as gasoline, oil, and carburetor cleaner.
  • Physically able to manipulate bolts, nuts, or other fasteners for purposes of disassembly and reassembly of equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of products and ability to engage customers to sell products.
  • Consistent attendance for regularly scheduled work shifts is required.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Complete special projects directed by members of management.
  • Other duties and responsibilities that may be required to meet the needs of the business.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF TRAINING AND EDUCATION:
  • Minimum Age is 18 years old.
  • Minimum of six months previous engine repair required. Certified training preferred.
  • Overnight travel stays required on occasion to attend supplier’s certification classes.
  • Positive attitude with a passion for collaborating with Team Members who want to grow.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing all day. The employee must occasionally engage in assisted lifting over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Excellent Benefit Package: Team Members who average a minimum of 25 hours per week after 6 months of employment are eligible for standard dental, vision, accident, legal plan, identity fraud protection plan per standard company eligibility requirements.
