What does a Slack administrator do?

A Slack Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining a company’s Slack workspace. Their duties include configuring settings, managing user access, integrating third-party apps, ensuring security compliance, and troubleshooting issues. They also provide support and training to users, helping teams get the most out of Slack’s collaboration features. The role is essential for organizations that rely on Slack for communication and workflow management.

What are some common challenges faced by a Slack administrator and how can they be addressed?

Slack Administrators often encounter challenges such as managing workspace permissions, ensuring smooth integration with third-party apps, and maintaining compliance with company security policies. Balancing user requests for customization with organizational guidelines can also be tricky. To address these issues, administrators should regularly audit user roles, stay updated on Slack's security features, and communicate clear usage policies to team members. Collaborating closely with IT and HR departments helps ensure alignment with broader company objectives and fosters a secure, efficient communication environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Slack administrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Slack Administrator, you need a solid understanding of workspace management, user provisioning, and platform security, often supported by experience in IT administration or related certifications. Familiarity with Slack’s admin console, API integrations, and tools like SCIM and SSO are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help administrators support users and enforce best practices. These competencies ensure smooth platform operations, secure collaboration, and optimized productivity across the organization.

Slack administrators and other related roles often have the option to work remotely, especially as many companies adopt flexible work arrangements. Remote work availability depends on the employer's policies, the company's culture, and the specific job requirements, but Slack roles frequently support remote or hybrid schedules. Skills in collaboration tools and communication platforms are valuable for remote positions in this field.

Job description

About Unicity

Unicity International is a global network marketing and direct sales company delivering health, wellness, and lifestyle products to customers and independent distributors around the world. Our IT Operations & Security team keeps the technology behind that global business secure, reliable, and scalable.

Position Summary

Unicity is looking for an entry-level IT Support Specialist to join our IT Operations & Security team at our Provo, UT office. This is a hands-on, in-office role for someone who is eager to build a career in IT — you'll be the first point of contact for hardware issues, new employee setup, and day-to-day Helpdesk requests. We're less focused on what you already know and more interested in your curiosity, reliability, and drive to learn. Unicity provides ongoing IT training as a benefit to help you grow your skills and advance within the IT organization.

What You'll Do
  • Tier 1 Helpdesk Support: Serve as the first point of contact for the Helpdesk system, answering and resolving Tier 1 tickets and escalating more complex issues to Tier 2/3 staff.

  • Hardware Support: Set up, troubleshoot, and maintain laptops, monitors, peripherals, printers, and network drops for the Provo office.

  • New User Setup: Prepare and configure laptops and user accounts for new hires, ensuring a smooth and professional first-day experience.

  • Identity & Access (JumpCloud): Support day-to-day identity and access tasks in JumpCloud, including account provisioning, device enrollment, and MFA support.

  • Google Workspace: Assist with Google Workspace administration — user accounts, shared drives, permissions, and basic end-user troubleshooting.

  • Slack: Support Slack workspace administration and help end users troubleshoot day-to-day issues.

  • On-Call: Participate in an occasional on-call rotation for after-hours escalations as needed.

  • Documentation: Follow and contribute to SOPs and knowledge base articles so recurring issues get resolved faster.

  • Compliance: Follow IT policies and procedures that support Unicity's PCI-DSS, SOC 2, and GDPR compliance obligations.

What You'll Bring — Required
  • A genuine hunger to learn: no prior professional IT experience is required — we're looking for curiosity, coachability, and a strong work ethic above all else.

  • Comfort with technology: basic comfort setting up and troubleshooting computer hardware (laptops, monitors, peripherals, printers).

  • Strong communication skills: friendly, clear, and patient communication with end users of varying technical skill levels.

  • Reliability: ability to work in-office five days per week at our Provo, UT location, including occasional light physical tasks (moving equipment, running network drops).

  • Adaptability: willingness to quickly learn new platforms and tools, including JumpCloud, Google Workspace, and Slack.

Nice to Have
  • Coursework or certifications such as CompTIA A+ or Network+.

  • Prior exposure to JumpCloud, Google Workspace, or Slack administration.

  • Prior helpdesk, retail tech support, or customer service experience.

  • An interest in growing into broader systems administration, cloud (AWS), or networking (Meraki) work.

Growth & Development

Unicity provides ongoing IT training as a benefit for this role. This position is designed as a launching point into an IT career, with a clear growth path toward Tier 2/3 support and Systems Administrator responsibilities for the right candidate.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, in-office position based at Unicity's Provo, UT location, five days per week. Occasional participation in an on-call rotation for after-hours support is expected.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit a resume and a short note describing what draws them to a career in IT.
