NorthHill Technology Resources has a need for a Geospatial Systems Software Engineer to support a Federal Program in Springfield, VA. ย This is a direct-hire role with our client, a fast-growing Federal Integrator. It is a hybrid position, with 4 days onsite and 1 remote day per week. ย An active Top-Secret Clearance is required.
As a Senior Geospatial Systems Software Engineer, you will lead the design and integration of advanced geospatial and intelligence platforms. Your work will translate operational and technical requirements into secure, scalable, and forward-looking architectures that align with Army modernization and convergence efforts.
What You'll Do:

  • Architect, develop, and optimize enterprise-grade GIS applications and solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership across the software development lifecycle - from requirements gathering and system design to implementation and delivery.
  • Guide teams in Agile/Scrum environments, supporting DevSecOps best practices and CI/CD workflows.
  • Oversee containerization strategies and deployment pipelines using Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
  • Lead system integration efforts with geospatial databases (PostGIS/PostgreSQL), services (ArcGIS Enterprise, QGIS, GeoServer), and COTS tools (ENVI, RemoteView, Erdas Imagine, Skyline).
  • Design and implement advanced geospatial data pipelines including acquisition, processing, and transformation at scale.
  • Ensure compliance with Risk Management Framework (RMF) and implement robust access control strategies.
  • Lead the implementation of automated Static Code Analysis and Container Scanning within the CI/CD pipeline and drive the remediation of vulnerabilities to ensure spatial microservices and data layers are hardened and audit ready.
  • Architect and implement secure, interoperable geospatial services utilizing OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) standards (WMS, WFS, WMTS, WCS, and OGC API - Features) to ensure seamless data exchange across multi-domain DoD and Intelligence Community platforms.
  • Support AI/ML model integration by developing data frameworks, model benchmarks, and performance metrics.
  • Conduct and lead peer reviews, QA/QC evaluations, code validation, and database design sessions.
  • Act as a technical liaison with stakeholders, translating mission requirements into scalable geospatial solutions.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level developers, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
  • Stay current on emerging geospatial, AI, and cloud technologies to influence strategic decisions.
