SKINCARE SALES

Location: Mical Skincare, Cayucos, CA (In-Shop)

Position Type: Part-Time (2 days/week - weekends, Saturday & Sunday)

Reports To: Co-Founder (Amber Sandoval), collaborating with Operations Manager

Target Start: 2026 (Exact date TBD)

ROLE SUMMARY

This is an in-shop role supporting the growth of Mical Skincare through exceptional customer experiences, skincare consultations, and confident in-store sales. This role is the foundation of our retail sales team and is designed as a clear, structured stepping stone into the Product Specialist position.

Team Members are immersed in the Mical Skincare product line from day one, learning the formulations, ingredients, and customer benefits that make our products effective. As they develop deep product knowledge and demonstrate strong sales performance, they become eligible for promotion to Skincare Consultant, and Product Specialist, where they can truly provide guided one-on-one consultations for our clients.

This role is ideal for someone who loves skincare, thrives in customer-facing environments, is excited to learn deeply, and is motivated by a defined growth path within a small by mighty team.

PRIMARY GOALS

  1. Drive skincare sales and consultations through excellent customer experience and growing product knowledge
  2. Work to develop a deep mastery of the full Mical Skincare product line โ€” formulations, ingredients, customer benefits, and routine-building
  3. Cultivate strong customer relationships and repeat clientele through follow-up, education, and personalized care

SCHEDULE & BANDWIDTH EXPECTATIONS

IN-SHOP: 2+ DAYS PER WEEK

Approximate weekly hours: 14โ€“18 hours, all on-site (no remote).

Primary in-shop focus includes:

  • Skincare consultations and product recommendations
  • Driving in-store skincare sales
  • Building strong customer relationships and repeat clientele
  • Supporting store energy, merchandising standards, and team communication
  • Active participation in onboarding training, study, and shadowing during scheduled shifts

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

SKINCARE SALES + CONSULTATIONS

  • Deliver personalized, high-quality skincare consultations and product recommendations
  • Drive skincare sales through education, confidence, and relationship-based selling
  • Build customer trust by listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, and tailoring recommendations to each person
  • Support customer retention through strong follow-up, remembering customers by name, and understanding repeat purchase behavior

PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

  • Build and maintain sufficient product knowledge across the full product line
  • Develop comfort speaking about ingredients, formulations, and how products work together in a routine
  • Be confident enough to say "I donโ€™t know" and rely on team support when needed
  • Participate in quarterly after-hours product training (paid time)

SHOP SUPPORT

  • Support opening and closing routines under Operations Manager direction
  • Operate Shopify POS for transactions, returns, and customer profile updates
  • Maintain merchandising standards (displays, testers, tidiness, restocking from in-house inventory)
  • Communicate clearly with the team about customer needs, product feedback, and stock-outs
  • Complete light administrative tasks as needed (customer follow-up notes, log forms, simple trackers)

COMPENSATION + INCENTIVES

Base Pay

  • $20/hour

Commission (In-Shop Sales)

  • 5% commission on skincare product sales personally sold
  • 2% commission on retail goods sales personally sold

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

A successful sales person will:

  • Consistently deliver excellent customer experiences
  • Steadily increase skincare sales through growing product knowledge and confident, relationship-based selling
  • Demonstrate proactive ownership of learning โ€” completing product studies and any assigned training, taking notes, and showing up prepared
  • Build a personal repeat clientele through thoughtful follow-up
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with the team
  • Within 6-months of starting, pass the Product Knowledge Assessment and Practical Consult Assessment that qualify team members for promotion

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
  • Interest in skincare and willingness to learn deeply about ingredients, formulations, and skin science
  • Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on tasks
  • Comfortable with basic tools like email, spreadsheets, and simple trackers (or willingness to learn quickly)
  • Comfortable being on your feet, engaging customers, and managing a calm and engaging shop environment

Preferred

  • Prior retail, hospitality, or direct-to-consumer sales experience
  • Personal interest in skincare, wellness, or holistic beauty
  • Experience with Shopify POS
  • Curiosity about ingredients, formulation science, or aesthetics
