What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Skating Director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Skating Director, you need advanced skating proficiency, coaching credentials (such as PSA or US Figure Skating certifications), and experience in program development and management. Familiarity with scheduling software, registration systems, and safety protocols is typically required. Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills help motivate staff, connect with skaters, and coordinate events smoothly. A Skating Director often faces the challenge of balancing administrative duties with coaching and program development. Managing a diverse team of instructors, scheduling ice time efficiently, and addressing the needs of skaters at various skill levels require strong organizational and communication skills. Building positive relationships with parents, facility staff, and the local skating community is essential for smooth program operations. Proactively addressing conflicts and maintaining open channels of feedback can help create a supportive and productive environment.

What is a Skating Director?
