Job description

Anthropology Department Special Sessions Lecturer Pool - SJSU Online

Job no: 553081. Work type: Instructional Faculty - Temporary/Lecturer. Location: San José.

The SJSU Anthropology Department is dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning. The department offers regular session in-person undergraduate BA degree programs and an in-person MA degree program. Two special sessions online degree programs are offered: an Anthropology BA and an Interdisciplinary Studies BA with a Science, Technology & Society concentration.

Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned courses in the department's curriculum and conduct weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
  • Participate in ongoing assessment of student learning to continuously improve teaching and learning experiences and to adhere to accreditation requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues on public health curriculum-related processes such as teaching multi-section courses to ensure the quality, rigor, relevance, and consistency of our curricula.
  • Attend team meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Organize classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
  • Offer and meet all classes as scheduled throughout the entire term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).
Required Qualifications
  • MA or Ph.D. degree in a field relevant to the curriculum or in a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned.
  • Ability to teach and evaluate adult learners.
  • Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population gained through cross-cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to effectively design, teach, and assess undergraduate and graduate courses in-person, online, and in hybrid formats.
