What is a Sitecore developer?

A Sitecore developer uses specialized software to create a web content management system or CMS. In this career, your job duties also include developing automated marketing systems that use information from a database to personalize advertising on websites. To qualify for a Sitecore developer job, you need experience working with Sitecore. Your career prospects could also benefit from a knowledge of programming languages and skills with other website development tools and ecosystems. Job qualifications include a computer science degree or Sitecore certification and experience with web development.

What is a Sitecore developer?

A Sitecore Developer is a software professional who specializes in building, customizing, and maintaining websites and applications using the Sitecore Experience Platform. Sitecore is a popular enterprise-level content management system (CMS) built on Microsoft .NET technology, known for its robust personalization and digital marketing features. Sitecore Developers work with tools such as C#, ASP.NET, and Sitecore's APIs to create scalable and interactive web solutions tailored to business needs. Their responsibilities may include implementing new features, integrating third-party systems, and optimizing site performance. They often collaborate closely with designers, marketers, and content editors to deliver seamless digital experiences.

What are some common challenges faced by Sitecore developers when working on enterprise-level projects?

Sitecore Developers working on enterprise projects often encounter challenges such as managing complex content architectures, integrating third-party systems, and ensuring optimal website performance. Balancing customization requests with maintaining upgradability can also be difficult, as heavy customizations may complicate future Sitecore updates. Additionally, collaborating with cross-functional teams—like designers, marketers, and DevOps—requires strong communication skills to align technical solutions with business goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sitecore developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sitecore Developer, you need expertise in C#, ASP.NET, front-end technologies, and a solid understanding of the Sitecore Experience Platform, often supported by a computer science degree and Sitecore certification. Familiarity with tools such as Visual Studio, Sitecore Experience Accelerator (SXA), and integration with CRM or marketing automation systems is typical. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and addressing client needs. These competencies ensure high-quality, scalable digital solutions and efficient project delivery in complex web development environments.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Sitecore Developer to build and maintain enterprise digital experiences on Sitecore Experience Platform (XP), Sitecore XM Cloud, and Sitecore Content Hub. The role spans backend C#/.NET development, front-end work, content modeling, integrations, and platform upgrades, with a strong emphasis on modern composable patterns and migration from legacy implementations. The ideal candidate has shipped meaningful Sitecore work in production, navigates both classic XP/XM and the composable Sitecore ecosystem, and balances technical depth with editor and marketer needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop Sitecore solutions across XM Cloud, XP, XM, and Content Hub.
  • Build templates, layouts, renderings, and components following Sitecore Helix architecture principles, keeping the solution modular, upgrade-friendly, and clearly organized by feature, foundation, and project layers.
  • Develop backend services in C#/.NET using Sitecore APIs and Sitecore Services.
  • Build headless implementations using Sitecore Headless Services, JSS, and Next.js front ends.
  • Implement content modeling, taxonomy, and DAM integrations using Content Hub.
  • Integrate Sitecore with Sitecore Send, Sitecore Personalize, CDP, and OrderCloud.
  • Migrate legacy XP/XM implementations to XM Cloud and composable architectures.
  • Implement personalization rules, A/B testing experiments, and analytics integrations that let marketers tailor experiences to specific audiences and measure the impact of content and design changes precisely.
  • Profile and optimize performance, caching, and CDN strategies for high-traffic sites, applying systematic measurement, targeted improvements, and data-driven validation to deliver quantifiable gains in throughput, latency, or resource efficiency.
  • Build CI/CD pipelines for Sitecore deployments using modern DevOps tooling.
  • Participate in code reviews, contribute to standards, and document technical decisions.
  • Troubleshoot production issues across content delivery, content management, and processing roles.
  • Collaborate with content authors, designers, and product owners on authoring experience improvements.
  • Stay current with Sitecore releases and composable DXP evolution, regularly review release notes and community discussions, and translate noteworthy advances into concrete recommendations and adoption proposals for the team.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Five or more years of Sitecore development experience.
  • Deep expertise in C#/.NET and Sitecore APIs.
  • Strong understanding of Sitecore Helix architecture.

  • Experience with headless implementations using JSS or Next.js.
  • Solid front‑end skills with modern JavaScript and build tools.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines for Sitecore deployments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance‑tuning skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Sitecore Certified Developer credentials.
  • Experience with XM Cloud migrations.
  • Familiarity with Sitecore Content Hub, CDP, or Personalize.
  • Exposure to multi‑brand or multi‑region Sitecore deployments.
