Job description

Network Engineer III

Location: Springfield, VA

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer III to support enterprise-scale wide area (WAN), local area (LAN), and campus area (CAN) networks operating across multiple security domains. This role focuses on network engineering, new capability implementation, and ongoing operations and sustainment of mission-critical infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate system maintenance, monitoring, and installation across multiple WAN/LAN environments spanning diverse platforms and technologies

  • Support research, design, and implementation of enterprise-wide network solutions to meet operational and mission objectives

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to network media, devices, and components

  • Monitor and evaluate network health and performance using hardware and management tools

  • Develop and maintain a technical roadmap for network capabilities, operations, and emerging technologies

  • Assist in the development and execution of test plans and supporting documentation for network configuration changes prior to implementation

  • Perform network traffic analysis and bandwidth optimization to meet performance and availability targets

  • Evaluate and report on new and emerging networking and communications technologies

  • Recommend improvements and technology upgrades aligned with performance goals, standardization, and industry best practices

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable network security processes, procedures, and government policies

  • Represent operational and technical requirements during coordination with external organizations and stakeholders

  • Conduct site surveys for new installations and technology refresh efforts

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot satellite communications equipment

  • Develop and maintain network architecture and topology diagrams


Required Qualifications
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance

  • 8+ years of experience in network and transport technologies, tools, and methodologies

  • 4+ years supporting large-scale enterprise or global networks in fast-paced, complex environments

  • Working knowledge of DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and related network architecture and planning guidance

  • Hands-on experience with Juniper networking equipment (MX, EX, SRX switches, routers, and firewalls)

  • Experience with Type 1 cryptographic devices (e.g., KG-175, KG-245 or equivalent)

  • Proficiency with network monitoring and analysis tools (e.g., network automation, analytics, IPAM, and performance management tools)

  • Experience with firewall and VPN technologies (IPSec/IKE, GRE, SRX platforms)

  • Experience supporting IP services across multiple classified and unclassified environments

    • IPv4/IPv6

    • VPN

    • Multicast

    • QoS

    • SDN

    • SNMP

    • VoIP / VTC

  • Strong understanding of routing and transport protocols and technologies, including:

    • OSPF, BGP

    • MPLS, RSVP/LDP

    • Layer 2/3 VPNs, VRFs

    • MTU considerations

    • Import/Export routing policies

  • IAT Level II certification (per DoD 8570/8140 requirements)


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in computer science or a related technical discipline

  • Industry certifications such as:

    • Juniper (JNCIA / JNCIS / JNCIP)

    • Cisco (CCNA / CCNP / CCVP / CCDP or equivalent)

  • ITIL v3 Foundations

  • ISCยฒ CISSP

  • CompTIA Security+
