What is a simulation manager?

Simulation Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based training and educational programs. They often work in fields such as healthcare, aviation, or engineering, managing simulation labs, coordinating scenarios, and ensuring equipment and technology are maintained. Their duties include supervising staff, developing curricula, and ensuring that simulation activities meet organizational and accreditation standards. Simulation Managers play a key role in enhancing training outcomes by providing realistic and effective learning experiences.

How does a simulation manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams in a project environment?

Simulation Managers often work closely with engineering, design, and project management teams to ensure that simulation models accurately reflect real-world scenarios. They facilitate regular meetings to gather requirements, validate data inputs, and communicate simulation results to stakeholders. Effective collaboration involves translating technical findings into actionable insights for non-technical team members, helping guide decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires strong communication skills and a proactive approach to ensure alignment across all involved departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a simulation manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Simulation Manager, you need expertise in simulation-based training, project management, and a relevant degree such as in healthcare, engineering, or education. Familiarity with simulation software (e.g., Laerdal, CAE), audiovisual systems, and potentially certifications like Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) is important. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help in coordinating teams and delivering effective training experiences. These skills ensure the successful implementation and management of simulation programs that enhance learning outcomes and operational efficiency.

You'll play a critical role in developing innovative fastening solutions that solve real-world customer challenges across transportation, industrial, and adjacent markets, with a strong emphasis on rail and transportation applications.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who wants to own products from concept through commercialization. You'll be involved in every stage of development, from engineering design and prototyping to testing, manufacturing transfer, and product launch. If you enjoy solving technical problems, working across disciplines, and seeing your ideas become commercially successful products, we'd love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

Product Development

  • Design innovative fastening solutions for railway, transportation, and adjacent industrial applications.
  • Own products throughout the full development lifecycle, including concept generation, design, prototyping, testing, validation, manufacturing transfer, and commercial launch.
  • Develop robust 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Collaborate with internal engineers and external simulation partners to optimize product performance.
  • Perform engineering analyses including stress analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), failure analysis, tolerance stack-ups, material selection, and FMEA.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles to ensure designs transition efficiently from prototype to production.
  • Develop and execute test protocols, analyze results, and document findings through technical reports.
  • Rapidly iterate designs based on testing results and engineering feedback.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation in accordance with the Product Development Process.
  • Support manufacturing development projects and product transfer into production.

Collaboration

  • Lead or participate in technical projects from planning through completion.
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and customers to develop successful products.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners.
  • Present project updates, technical findings, and design recommendations to project teams and customers.

What you Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline) with 5+ years of relevant product design experience, or a Master's degree with 3+ years, or a PhD with 1+ years.
  • Experience designing mechanical fasteners, precision components, or similar hardware for industrial, automotive, aerospace, or transportation applications; railway or transportation fastener experience is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Proven experience bringing products from concept through manufacturing and commercial launch.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
  • Knowledge of forging, thread rolling, die casting, heat treating, surface coatings, and/or CNC machining is sought.
  • Experience performing engineering analyses such as FEA, stress analysis, tolerance analysis, and failure analysis.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
