DESCRIPTION:

ABSI Aerospace & Defense is an innovative small business providing specialized services to the government and industry partners with a focus on the DoD. We are currently seeking highly qualified applicants to work withthe US Air Force Test Pilot School, primarily supporting the Test and Evaluation training course for US Space Force personnel including operators, engineers, and program managers and secondarily supporting the established Flight Test Course. These one year in-residence courses are offered two times each year with dedicated facilities onboard Edwards AFB.


The Electronics Lab Technician will play a key role in supporting the development of test professionals by assembling, employing and maintaining various electronics systems used for instruction, including a variety of instrumentation, laboratory assets and simulation equipment. The Electronics Lab Technician will work closely with other instructors and satellite operators to develop new exercises so students successfully gain hands-on and laboratory experience to reinforce classroom instruction. The Electronics Lab Technician will ensure the laboratory is functional, compliant, and a conducive learning environment. The Electronics Lab Technician will work closely with other technicians and engineers to support a wide range of USAF Test Pilot School instrumentation, laboratory and simulation requirements.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Electronics Lab Technician will be responsible for:

  • Maintenance, integration, and upgrading of Test Pilot School (TPS) laboratory and open-air equipment in support of curriculum and research objectives including physical integration of new electronics equipment and limited software development to support integration of new instrumentation and simulation capabilities
  • Supporting instructors and students in the development of systems and instruments relevant to the educational mission of USAF TPS
  • Organizing and conducting simulator lab events and ground test events for instructional purposes
  • Providing leadership and assistance in instrument assembly and testing
  • Ensuring that participating students are trained to conduct lab work in compliance with TPS guidelines including, but not limited to:
    • Training students in lab skills to achieve research goals
    • Supervising students within the lab
    • Managing lab security including access
    • Serving as the primary contact for lab activities operations, and compliance.
  • Supporting the requirements of the USAF TPS instrumentation division
  • Monitoring and maintaining the lab and keeping track of consumable lab supplies and everything needed to keep the lab functioning

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HS Diploma or GED with at least 5 years of relevant experience performing the essential functions in a laboratory environment

    • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, aerospace, aviation, or other related technical field from an accredited higher education institution with 2 years of experience can substitute
  • Ability to build laboratory demonstrations
  • Experience using scientific instrumentation and equipment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience using Matlab and Simulink

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering, aerospace, aviation, or other related technical field from an accredited higher education institution
  • Experience with simulation
  • Experience in one or more specialized areas such as control systems, electro-optical systems, electric power system, spacecraft systems, communication systems, or deep/machine learning
  • Current Top Secret clearance or Top Secret Investigation completed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based collaborative resources such as SharePoint and Microsoft Teams
