Position Summary
The Simulation Instructor is responsible for the planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of simulation experiences and related activities, including, but not limited to; simulation instruction, instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, and participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations. The Simulation Instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Coastal Alabama Community College campus or site as assigned.
The Simulation Instructor must adhere to the general guidelines as specified by the College's Policies and Procedures Manual, department guidelines, the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health, and the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Board of Trustees.
Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System salary schedule D1 (9 months).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:
- Develops curriculum, plans and organizes Simulation Program courses in coordination with other department instructors, appropriate Division Chair, Simulation Director, and/or Dean to ensure simulation best practices are adequately addressed and compliance with curriculum. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Ensures that assigned simulation events are held as scheduled; Plans each simulation experience, both as to content and method, to make each event meaningful for all learners; Effectively facilitates all simulation educational activities, including briefing, scenarios, and debriefing; Organizes each simulation taught into an effective instrument of learning; Studies and utilizes the characteristics of the learners in each class in order to facilitate the best teaching and learning situations; Maximizes the learning opportunities for all participants; Utilizes proficiency with virtual meeting and presentation formats as needed; Maintains necessary records for Simulation Program Accreditation; Assist with ordering, maintaining, and updating Simulation Program equipment and supplies; Supervises Simulation Clinical/Lab Supervisors.
- Effectively integrates the simulation best practice standards as needed into all courses in the day, evening, or on weekends on any Coastal Alabama Community College campus, work site, or community location.
- Assists in implementing College policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with College philosophy and procedures including, but not limited to; Conducts prompt learner evaluations and completing other College evaluations in accordance with College policy; Posts and maintains office hours for student consultations; Submits all required reports, keeping accurate course rolls, and submits attendance verification as required to the appropriate administrative personnel.
- Coordinates, develops, and maintains electronic health record documentation, medication administration records, and learning management systems for simulation experiences.
- Works closely with the appropriate Division Chair/Director on the development of annual Division budgets for approval by the Dean.
- Remains active at a high level of expertise (credentials) and stimulates enthusiasm for those subjects by keeping informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities, including simulation-specific professional development and promotion of the healthcare simulation community. Strives for the qualities delineated in the criteria for faculty evaluation used by the College. Makes suggestions to the Division Chair, the Instructional Affairs Committee, the Director, and/or the Dean concerning the improvement of the curriculum in keeping with the procedures, proper chain of command, and objectives of the College.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution.
- An unencumbered Alabama registered nurse license or appropriate multi-state licensure.
- Experience working in simulation pedagogy is required, including development of simulation educational activities.
- Three (3) years' experience as a registered nurse.
- Knowledge and understanding of simulation best-practice standards.
- Nursing experience or education that includes the following: Knowledge and understanding of essentials of safe and effective care environment; Prevention of illness; maintenance, promotion, restoration of health; Psychological integrity of individuals across life span; and Knowledge of the history and trends of nursing, cultural diversity, legal and ethical responsibilities, and nursing practice.
- Evidence of excellent clinical skills and experience providing clinical supervision of nurses, nursing students, and/or other healthcare personnel.
- Ability to work across health disciplines and with community stakeholders.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated flexibility in handling diverse course loads.
- Ability to traverse to teach on multiple campuses and other locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership in a healthcare simulation society or association.
- Healthcare simulation certification.
- Three (3) years' experience teaching in an educational setting.
- Nursing experience in a hospital (emergency and non-emergency setting).
- Experience working with a variety of health disciplines and community stakeholders.
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
- Experience integrating or demonstrated ability to integrate technology in the classroom.
