Summary of Role:

As a Principal Member of Technical Staff, this role defines and leads the technology roadmap for GF's quantum photonics modality. The position combines deep expertise in photonic device physics, semiconductor manufacturing, advanced materials, and quantum hardware integration to develop scalable foundry-compatible platforms spanning silicon photonics, silicon nitride, quantum emitters, electro-optic devices, cryogenic photonics, and heterogeneous integration.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead development of GF's photonic quantum hardware roadmap, integration strategy, and technology maturation plans.
  • Define manufacturable process flows for quantum photonic integrated circuits, quantum emitters, single-photon sources, detectors, modulators, resonators, and optical interconnects.
  • Drive integration of advanced material systems including SiN, AlN, Al₂O₃, lithium niobate, III-V materials, quantum dots, color centers, and heterogeneous photonic platforms.
  • Develop scalable approaches for quantum emitter integration, photon routing, entanglement distribution, and photonic quantum networking architectures.
  • Lead cross-functional teams spanning device engineering, process integration, metrology, design enablement, packaging, characterization, and manufacturing.
  • Interface directly with strategic quantum computing customers, university partners, national laboratories, and ecosystem collaborators.
  • Establish technology metrics, yield-learning methodologies, reliability plans, and manufacturing readiness criteria.
  • Mentor technical staff and provide thought leadership through publications, conferences, patents, and customer presentations.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, Photonics, Materials Science, or related discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in photonic device development, quantum photonics, semiconductor R&D, or advanced technology integration.
  • Demonstrated leadership in integrated photonics, nanophotonics, quantum emitters, quantum optics, or quantum hardware development.
  • Experience developing photonic integrated circuits using silicon photonics, silicon nitride, III-V photonics, lithium niobate, or related platforms.
  • Deep knowledge of device simulation tools such as Lumerical, COMSOL, HFSS, MEEP, or equivalent.
  • Strong record of technical innovation including publications, patents, technology transfers, and external leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with photonic quantum computing architectures.
  • Experience with single-photon sources, quantum emitters, color centers, quantum dots, or cryogenic optical systems.
  • Experience with wafer-scale photonic integration and foundry manufacturing.
  • Previous leadership of large R&D programs or technical organizations.
  • Experience working with quantum ecosystem leaders, national laboratories, or photonic start-ups.
  • Recognized expert with substantial publication, patent, and external speaking record.
