The Ohio Turnpike & Infrastructure Commission is seeking an experienced MW Class II Sign Shop employee to work in our Maintenance Department at the Amherst Maintenance Building - Sign Shop in Amherst, OH. Work Location:
Ohio Turnpike & Infrastructure Commission, Amherst Maintenance Building - Sign Shop, Amherst, Ohio - Lorain County, Milepost 141. Examples of Duties

Job Duties:

  • Maintains, constructs, replaces, and repairs traffic control devices including pavement markings, roadway signage, roadway delineation, raised pavement markers, signage, delineation, pavement paint and markings.
  • Fabrication and erection signage (mainline and plaza guide, information, warning, regulatory and temporary construction signs, etc.).
  • Assemble small tools, equipment and materials that are necessary for work assignments.
  • Performs inspection of contract striping operations.
  • Provide assistance to the Sign Shop and Trades personnel.
  • Perform snow and ice removal operations when required and any other duties as may be assigned by the Division Trades Supervisor or Sign Shop Foreman.
Major Worker Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of applicable practices and procedures; operation of tools and equipment; safety practices; agency policies and procedures*.
  • Skilled in the operation and use of a variety of construction tools and equipment including loader, saws, jackhammers, trucks, etc.
  • Possess the ability to perform the duties that are necessary for snow and ice control operations.
  • Construct projects with building materials (e.g., wood, concrete, asphalt, steel, etc.); traffic control*, communications*, safety equipment*.
  • Ability to understand plans, specifications, and detailed instructions.
  • Work alone on tasks.
  • Stand, walk or bend continuously.
  • Lift and carry 40 pounds frequently and 80 pounds occasionally.
  • use mechanical equipment.
  • radio and telephone communications*.
  • Assigned to an approximate 241-mile section of roadway with the ability to drive throughout the distance of the Ohio Turnpike.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years of applicable experience and/or training in sign shop work is required.
  • Valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required with a tanker endorsement required.
Must also possess knowledge, skills and experience as outlined below:
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials and traffic control devices used along the Ohio Turnpike. Working knowledge of the Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (OMUTCD).
  • Two (2) years recent experience in traffic control work & operation of related equipment. Experience setting Maintenance of Traffic work zones.
  • Experience welding various metals.
  • Experience operating crane truck, bucket truck, digger truck, etc. Must have current boom truck operator certification or obtain within first six months of employment.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization;
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply the concepts of basic algebra and geometry;
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to view all visible colors on spectrum of colors;
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge and skill in the use of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, etc.
