Job description

General Overview

The resident expansion coordinator is a full-time temporary salaried position, lasting for a 1-year duration, working within the Undergraduate Services Department at Sigma Chi Headquarters.  The primary responsibility of the resident expansion coordinator is to provide guidance, education and counsel from the Fraternity during the new chapter initiative.  This includes providing consistent and hands-on guidance to all undergraduate members, acting as the Magister, providing Sigma Chi leadership programming and training, and acting as an advisor and liaison between undergraduate members, the advisory board, Grand Praetor, and the university administration.

Responsibilities

Work with undergraduate organization and members

  • Provide guidance over recruitment efforts
  • Assist the Grand Praetor in finding and establishing an alumni advisory board if not present
  • Conduct training of, and ensure proper mentoring to, alumni involved in supporting the undergraduates
  • Act as magister and run all aspects the Preparation for Brotherhood program
  • Ensure establishment and proper management of federal tax identification number, bank accounts, by-laws, and other administrative protocols
  • Instruct on how to effectively operate, including, but not limited to; running chapter meetings, voting procedures, utilizing Robert’s Rules of Order, and running executive board meetings
  • Have at least one one-on-one meeting with each undergraduate member to discuss their progress through Sigma Chi, school, and personal life
  • Monitor and track colony or chapter development with formal reports submitted twice per-month
  • Conduct leadership programs with the undergraduates and train local alumni on leading them

Liaison between University and College Administrators and Sigma Chi Fraternity

  • Maintain a positive relationship with university and college staff members
  • Be the main point of contact between the associate chapter’s university and Sigma Chi

General Headquarters Operations Support

  • Support other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

    Education and Experiential Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Must be a member in good standing of the Sigma Chi Fraternity

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Abilities)

    • Strong knowledge of Sigma Chi and its programs
    • Exemplary customer service, interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
    • Outgoing and energetic personality
    • Self-motivating, goal-oriented with strong sense of initiative
    • Ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines with personal initiative
    • Team-oriented philosophy with the ability to multitask projects and responsibilities
    • Detail-oriented, organized, persistent, and thorough
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

    Physical Demands

    • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls. Manual dexterity and coordination are required for more than 50 percent of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse and similar machines
    • While performing duties, the employee may be subject to prolonged periods speaking and light to heavy physical exertion over the course of 12–24-hour periods
    • Being able to lift, carry, and move packages, promotional material, and performance equipment weighing up to 50lbs
