Position Summary: The Sr. Robotic Systems Engineer is responsible for leading system-level design and integration activities for advanced robotic and autonomous platforms, defining requirements, creating architecture, executing trade studies, and overseeing testing and validation. They drive complex debugging, implement advanced autonomy and control features, and ensure system compliance with defense and aerospace standards. The Sr. Robotic Systems Engineer has a deep knowledge of control theory, robotic software frameworks, real-time platforms, sensor fusion, and electromechanical systems. Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring ability, and successful delivery of mission-critical systems are essential. The Sr. Robotic Systems Engineer coordinates efforts across Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Manufacturing, and Test Engineering teams, and serve as a technical lead on programs. They mentor Engineers I and II, support program managers, interface with customers, and present at technical reviews. They operate with high autonomy and are expected to lead cross-functional collaboration and engineering decision-making.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead system-level design and integration, defining architecture, interfaces, and communication structures across robotic platforms. Ensure interoperability and scalability.
  • Lead sensor and actuator integration across systems, defining interface standards and optimizing performance. Guide design reviews and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Lead lifecycle management activities, including planning for sustainment, upgrades, and end-of-life transitions.
  • Oversee product baselines across engineering and production, ensuring system documentation remains current and consistent with delivered hardware and software.
  • Own system-level deliverables and cross-discipline coordination. Lead design reviews, risk management, and ensure mission and contractual compliance.
  • Lead test planning and validation of full robotic systems. Oversee HIL setups, field validation, and MIL-STD compliance verification. Oversee root cause analysis and generate industry standard reporting including fishbone diagrams, 5 Why's and related methods. Recommend corrective actions and validation.
  • Lead reliability analyses, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and safety reviews. Ensure compliance with aerospace, defense, and environmental standards in production systems.
  • Lead DFM reviews, collaborate with manufacturing teams, and ensure design solutions are producible and reliable at scale.
  • Oversee system-level configuration, ensure compliance with change control policies, and coordinate updates across multiple disciplines.
  • Lead manufacturing support for system-level integration, resolve cross-disciplinary technical issues, and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Lead system-level analysis, identify complex failure modes, perform risk assessments, and validate design improvements.
  • Assume technical ownership within the SIG SAUER NPI (New Product Introduction) process. Ensure a smooth transition from prototype to production or field deployment, including cross-functional coordination.
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers, sharing expertise and promoting collaboration across teams and disciplines. Aid in fostering professional development.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives, promote efficiency, and implement lessons learned across programs, fostering continuous improvement across multiple teams.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
  • Must follow all ISO procedures, comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements, and adhere to SIG SAUER, Inc. security mandates.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Robotics, Computer, or Systems Engineering, or a closely related field required, Master's degree preferred. Advanced coursework or certifications in robotics, autonomous systems, or system engineering is beneficial. 7-10 years of experience leading system-level design, integration, testing, and validation of complex robotic platforms is required.
  • Strong skills in MATLAB/Simulink, C++/Python, and ROS for system-level integration and sensor fusion. Follow version control and CI/CD practices, support HIL simulations, automated testing, and system-level debugging.
  • Advanced office software skills. Capable of using Excel for complex data analysis, modeling, and dashboards; Word for professional reports and technical documentation; and PowerPoint for executive-level presentations.
  • Proficiency with collaborative platforms such as SharePoint, Teams, or Confluence is expected to manage program-wide knowledge, ensure document control, and support reporting across multiple projects.
  • Ability to lead supplier capability assessments for critical components, evaluate supplier quality processes, and recommend sourcing or design changes based on technical evaluation.
  • Ability to coordinate closely with cross-functional teams to resolve supplier-related issues and ensure supplier processes align with system-level requirements and standards.
  • Adept at producing comprehensive system-level reports, developing procedures for testing and integration, and delivering technical presentations to cross-functional teams and management.
  • Documentation is accurate and aligned with standards, and presentations communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to support program-level decisions.
  • Skilled in addressing complex system-level problems, identifying root causes across multiple subsystems and disciplines.
  • Experienced in providing project-level management by coordinating engineering tasks, schedules, and resources with the team leadership.
  • Ability to mentor less experienced engineers, facilitate cross-functional collaboration, and help ensure timely delivery of system-level milestones while balancing technical and organizational priorities.
  • Provide technical leadership by guiding team members in design, integration, and problem-solving activities, coordinating closely with the team lead. Ability to mentor less experienced engineers, promote best practices, and help ensure the team achieves project goals while fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Experience using and maintaining firearms is beneficial but not required.

Working Conditions:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
