Their duties typically include maintaining the cleanliness of the shrine, assisting visitors, performing rituals, and selling amulets or charms. Some shrine workers, such as Shinto priests or miko (shrine maidens), have ceremonial roles and may participate in religious festivals and prayers. The job requires respect for tradition and the ability to interact with people seeking spiritual guidance or participating in cultural events.

What are some common challenges faced by shrine architects in designing and maintaining religious structures?

They must collaborate closely with religious leaders, local authorities, and artisans to ensure that renovations or new designs respect cultural and spiritual values while meeting building codes. Additionally, these professionals frequently work in multidisciplinary teams to address structural integrity, environmental sustainability, and the integration of advanced technologies without compromising the site's sacred character.
