The main difference between a Short Term Option RN and a Licensed Practical Nurse lies in their scope of practice and credentials. RNs typically have a broader scope, handling more complex cases, while LPNs focus on routine patient care. Short Term Option RNs are often hired for temporary assignments requiring registered nurse qualifications, whereas LPNs work in more stable, long-term settings. Understanding these differences helps healthcare facilities match staffing needs with appropriate qualifications.

What are some common challenges faced by Short Term Option RNs, and how can they prepare for them?

Short Term Option RNs often work in temporary or contract positions, which requires them to quickly adapt to new healthcare environments, policies, and teams. A common challenge is learning facility procedures and patient care protocols in a short timeframe, while still providing high-quality care. To prepare, it's helpful to be proactive in asking questions, reviewing orientation materials thoroughly, and maintaining strong communication with both permanent staff and fellow temporary team members. Building flexibility and resilience is key to thriving in these fast-paced and ever-changing assignments.
