To thrive as a Short Term Consultant, you generally need expertise in your field, analytical abilities, and a relevant degree or professional qualification. Familiarity with project management tools, data analysis software, and industry-specific systems is often required. What is a short term consultant?

A Short Term Consultant (STC) is a professional who is hired on a temporary basis to provide specialized expertise or services for a specific project or period. STCs typically work on contracts that last from a few days up to several months, depending on the needs of the organization. They are often brought in for their subject matter knowledge, technical skills, or to support peak workloads. Unlike regular employees, STCs are usually paid a daily or hourly rate and may not receive employee benefits. This role is common in international organizations, consulting firms, and companies needing flexible staffing solutions.

What are the typical responsibilities and project timelines for a short term consultant, and how do these differ from permanent roles?

Short Term Consultants are often brought in to provide specialized expertise or support for specific projects with clearly defined deliverables and timelines, which usually range from a few weeks to several months. Unlike permanent employees, consultants often work independently or as part of a small project team, focusing on achieving set objectives within a limited timeframe. This role requires adaptability, strong communication skills, and the ability to quickly integrate into new teams or organizations. Project scopes are typically well-defined, but consultants must be prepared to manage multiple priorities and deliver results efficiently.

Job description

Short Term Stay Veterinarian

Caldwell Animal Hospital is excited to add you as an Short Term Stay Veterinarian! Our team located in Lenoir, NC prides themselves on their collaborative culture that integrates a variety of medical and surgical cases, while supporting you in your professional aspirations.

This is an ideal role for:

  • Full time W2 doctors looking for a location change, a change of pace, or are looking to be reenergized.
  • Relief doctors looking for a little more stability without the full time leash.
  • Seasoned veterinarians looking to slow down without stepping away – keeping clinical skills sharp while traveling, mentoring younger teams, or finding renewed energy in the profession.
  • A doctor who wants flexibility to travel or ability to 'try before you buy' without the leash of a noncompete.

What Makes This Opportunity Special:

  • Built-In Flexibility: Choose the locations and time periods that work for your life. Whether you want extended breaks between assignments or back-to-back opportunities, we support your timeline.
  • Housing, Travel and Onboarding Supported: Travel costs and short-term housing are covered with our monthly stipend. This allows you to focus on what you do best—providing excellent care.
  • Strong Compensation & Benefits: Competitive daily rate pay that reflects your experience. No need to set up your own LLC or work through a third party relief agency, you'll be paid as a W2 employee, which can help to simplify your lift during tax season. You're also eligible for benefits like 401k match, pet care discount, and PLIT coverage.
  • Clinical Focus, No Admin: Step away from day-to-day management responsibilities and operational logistics. This role is designed for veterinarians who want to practice medicine—not manage spreadsheets.
  • Support for Life's Transitions: Whether you're easing into retirement, returning to clinical work after time away, or simply exploring a new pace, this role offers the flexibility and support to meet you where you are, professionally and personally.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality medical care in your specified hospital location
  • Serve patients and clients with a relationship-based approach
  • Collaborate and engage with the clinical team and leadership
  • Grow relationships within the practice and the Lenoir community
  • Encourage the growth of support staff members through our internal LevelUp training program
  • Manage a varying caseload, including surgeries and appointments during our open hours
  • Represent AVG with professionalism and compassion in the hospital you support
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
  • DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA accredited college (or successful completion of the ECFVG or PAVE program)
  • Active license in good standing to practice in the state in which candidate will be employed (or the ability to obtain a license in that state)
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience strongly preferred
  • Comfort in adapting to new clinical environments and team structures
  • Strong communication and a collaborative mindset
Inclusive Compensation Package:
  • Flexible Scheduling with a 3 Day Work Week!
  • Monthly Housing/Travel Stipend for Veterinarians Residing 60+ miles from the Hospital
  • Competitive Compensation Paid as a Daily Rate
  • Part-Time Employment Qualifications and Benefits
  • Significantly Discounted Personal Veterinary Care – Multiple Pets!
  • No Long-Term Commitment Required - 90 day term with ability to renew
  • Easy Transition into Permanent Role with Mutual Interest
  • Covered Professional Liability Insurance (PLIT)
  • Internal Veterinarian Collaboration & Consultations Platforms
  • Custom Hospital Scrubs, Jacket or Lab Coat
  • 401k Retirement Match
