Job description

Job Summary

Email Marketing Strategist (Klaviyo Expert)

About the Role

We are looking for a senior-level Email Marketing Strategist who combines strategic thinking, flawless execution, and deep technical knowledge of Klaviyo. This is not an entry-level role. We need someone who can own the entire email channel for multiple clients, from strategy to copy direction to segmentation setups to building flows and launching campaigns.

You will be responsible for planning, creating, optimizing, and reporting on high-performing email and SMS programs for e-commerce, B2B, and service-based clients. You must be able to speak confidently with clients about lifecycle marketing, revenue growth opportunities, retention strategies, and the technical “how” behind email automation.

We’re looking for someone who thinks like a strategist, works like an operator, and communicates like an expert.

Responsibilities

Email Strategy & Client Leadership

  • Develop comprehensive lifecycle email strategies based on client goals, customer behaviour, and product/service offerings.

  • Identify new flow opportunities (e.g., post-purchase, browse abandonment, replenishment, welcome series, winback, lead nurture).

  • Lead communication with clients, explaining strategic rationale, performance updates, opportunities, and next steps.

  • Audit existing email programs and deliver clear, prioritized recommendations.

Execution & Technical Implementation

  • Build, optimize, and launch flows and campaigns in Klaviyo end-to-end (no assistant support).

  • Create and manage segmentation logic, dynamic content blocks, and personalization.

  • Set up tracking, UTMs, deliverability monitoring, and A/B tests.

  • Build new forms, popups, lead capture experiences, and consent flows.

Performance Management

  • Analyze revenue contribution, deliverability issues, subscriber behaviour, and attribution.

  • Identify drop-off points in email funnels and propose CRO-focused improvements.

  • Monitor key lifecycle metrics: open rate, click rate, conversion rate, unsubscribe rate, spam placement, and list health.

  • Provide monthly reports with insights, recommendations, and a pipeline of tests.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with designers/copywriters (or lead direction yourself when needed).

  • Collaborate with Google Ads, Meta Ads, Web Dev, and CRO teams to align messaging and improve performance across channels.

  • Provide strategic input for creative decisions, promotions, product launches, and customer journey improvements.

Experience/Qualifications

Must-Haves

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience managing email marketing for brands (agency experience preferred).

  • Expert-level knowledge of Klaviyo (flows, campaigns, segments, analytics, deliverability).

  • Strong understanding of email strategy across the entire customer lifecycle.

  • Proven ability to generate revenue via email - both through automation and campaign sends.

  • Strong analytical skills; ability to read data and make strategic decisions.

  • Experience writing or directing persuasive email copy aligned to client tone and goals.

  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple clients independently.

  • Confident communicator who can explain complex email concepts in a simple, client-friendly way.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with SMS marketing (especially Klaviyo SMS, Postscript, or Attentive).

  • Knowledge of e-commerce platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce.

  • Background in CRO or customer journey mapping.

  • Experience with deliverability best practices and inboxing troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with ESP migrations or advanced A/B testing frameworks.

Who You Are

You are:

  • A true email strategist who understands the “why” behind flows, not just the “how”

  • Able to build anything in Klaviyo with speed and accuracy

  • Capable of juggling strategy, execution, reporting, and client communication

  • Someone who brings new ideas, new flows, and proactive insights

  • Comfortable owning the channel end-to-end

  • Passionate about lifecycle marketing and retention strategies

  • Someone who sees email as a core revenue driver for brands - not “just newsletters”

  • The person clients trust as the expert in the room
