Job Summary
Facilitates the operation of the woodshop lab, trains and supervises students on safety procedures for shop equipment and tools. Mentors students in the fabrication of models or projects of their designs. Ensures programming and proper operation of CNC router equipment and routine maintenance and repair of shop equipment.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: -
1. Mentors students on constructing complex models or projects from their designs
2. Trains and supervises students in the safe operation of shop equipment
3. Ability to use woodworking machinery and a range of hand tools
4. Performs independent and complex maintenance work including detection and correction of mechanical failures
5. Responsible for the set up and tear down of the shop work areas for various class needs
6. Maintains inventory of materials and supplies
7. Ensures equipment is operational and safety devices are working for students
8. Ensures compliance with all lab regulations
9. Develops and updates shop guides for student use
10. Designates tasks for student assistants to support shop operation
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Associate's, technical, vocational, or related degree and/or certificate from an accredited institution of higher education or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Required Experience
Two (2) years relevant experience in woodworking or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Excellent carpentry or woodworking skills
Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Preferred Experience
Experience constructing objects with various materials
Experience teaching technical topics for hands on equipment operation
Previous experience with CNC routers and other digital fabrication equipment
Previous experience working with customers and/or higher education
Previous experience with woodworking equipment and joinery, or model building
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Able to manage stressful situations
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, AutoCad, CNC coding software)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
