Job description

As a shop technician, you will play a pivotal role in the SCAD student experience by providing safe and reliable access to industry-standard tools and equipment. In this role, you will help students understand and use these tools safely and effectively, providing guidance on techniques and best practices. You will also manage the shop's inventory, ensuring that supplies are available for student projects, and help troubleshoot technical issues, all while offering elite customer service to enhance the overall learning environment.
The shop technician is responsible for ensuring a safe and functional shop environment, whether in the wood shop, metal shops, plastics lab, foundry, or paint facilities. The successful candidate is an excellent communicator and problem solver. The candidate is detail-oriented and highly observant, with a commitment to promoting a safe working environment for students and staff members.
Minimum qualifications:
  • High school diploma
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining industrial woodworking equipment, processes, and techniques

Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or associate degree
  • Prior experience in a woodshop or fabrication environment
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Illustrator, and 3D modeling/graphics programs
  • Knowledge of metal and plastic fabrication
  • Knowledge of metalworking equipment

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
