Job description

Job Title: Shop Foreman

Reports to: ROB VAN HEISE

Location: LONGVIEW TX

Position Summary: The Shop Foreman oversees daily shop operations, coordinates workflow, supervises techniciansย  AND, enforces safety and quality standards, and ensures on-time completion of production and repair work. The Foreman acts as the primary point of contact for personnel issues, scheduling, equipment maintenance, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and lead a team of 8 technicians, machinists, and/or mechanics; assign tasks and monitor performance.
  • Schedule daily work, prioritize jobs, and allocate resources to meet customer deadlines and production targets.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and customer specifications; inspect work and perform final checks.
  • Enforce shop safety policies, maintain a clean work environment, and ensure compliance with OSHA and company procedures.
  • Train, coach, and mentor staff; conduct performance reviews and recommend disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Maintain equipment and tooling schedules; coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Monitor inventory of materials, consumables, and spare parts; place orders and control costs.
  • Collaborate with production planning, engineering, and sales to resolve technical issues and improve workflows.
  • Track labor hours, job costs, and productivity metrics; prepare reports for management.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve throughput.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical diploma, trade school, or associate degree preferred.
  • [3โ€“7]+ years hands-on experience in a shop environment (fabrication, manufacturing, automotive, HVAC, etc.), with at least [1โ€“3] years in a supervisory role.
  • Solid knowledge of [ machining, fabrication, CNC, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, or relevant trade skills].
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with job scheduling, basic shop math, blueprint reading, and measuring tools.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations (OSHA) and shop best practices.

Preferred Certifications / Skills:

  • Experience with inventory/POS systems, CMMS, or ERP software.
  • Lean manufacturing / continuous improvement training (Kaizen, 5S).

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, on-site position. Regular day shifts; occasional overtime and weekend work as needed.
  • Physically demanding: standing, lifting (up to 75 lbs), bending, and working in shop environments with noise, dust, and chemicals; PPE required.
