Description:

This position is an Evergreen requisition, which means it is an ongoing posting, regardless of headcount available. We will keep qualified resumes on file to contact should an available job need to be filled.



Position Scope:

  • Performs diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment in the main shop.
  • Supports shop operations by completing assigned work orders efficiently and accurately.
  • Works closely with Shop Supervisors, Service Managers, and other technicians to maintain workflow and meet customer expectations.
  • Ensures all repairs follow manufacturer guidelines and company standards.
  • Represents Stowers Machinery with professionalism during internal and occasional customer interactions.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment components.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, shop equipment, and repair procedures.
  • Strong communication skills for reporting findings and coordinating with shop leadership.
  • Ability to complete accurate documentation and follow established processes.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures, PPE requirements, and shop best practices.

Preferred Qualification(s):

  • Experience repairing heavy equipment, diesel engines, or related machinery.
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment and dealership service processes.
  • Certifications in diesel technology, hydraulics, or equipment repair.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical training or an Associate degree in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or a related field preferred.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy equipment in the main shop.
  • Complete preventative maintenance services including fluid changes, inspections, and adjustments.
  • Document all findings, parts used, and repair actions in work orders.
  • Communicate equipment condition and recommended repairs to supervisors.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and safe condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with moving equipment in and out of the shop as needed.
  • Support warranty repair processes and proper documentation.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Support less experienced technicians by sharing knowledge and proper repair techniques when needed.
  • Promote a safe, organized, and efficient shop environment.
  • Assist in training new technicians on procedures, documentation, and equipment operation.
  • Represent the shop positively through teamwork and professionalism.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Hands on experience with heavy equipment diagnostics and repair.
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar service systems and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high volume shop environment.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, or move heavy components and tools as required.
  • Ability to stand, bend, climb, or work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to wear required PPE in shop environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accuracy in a fast paced setting.
  • Must meet requirements for driving company vehicles if applicable.

Work Environment:

  • Frequent interaction with technicians, supervisors, and parts personnel.
  • Fast paced environment requiring adaptability and strong communication.
  • Standard work schedule with potential overtime during peak demand.

Most work is conducted in a comfortable shop environment but exposure to site conditions may also occur. Personal protective equipment must be worn in areas as required. Although the work usually is not considered inherently dangerous, employees must be careful while performing onsite services.
