Fincantieri Marine Systems North America is hiring for a Shipyard Carpenter at our Jacksonville/Mayport, FL locations. This is a 1st shift role, Monday - Friday, 7:00AM - 3:45PM.

Position Summary

The Shipyard Carpenter is responsible for completing a range of interior and external construction and repair tasks aboard U.S. Navy vessels and within shipyard environments. Tasks include working with marine-grade carpentry, insulation, flooring, drywall, and finishing work. This role involves executing assigned tasks efficiently while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship/workmanship and ensuring all work complies with vessel-specific regulations and quality requirements.

Domestic travel may be required


Essential Functions

  • Rough and Trim Carpentry: Repair and rebuild bulkheads, framing, and decking supports on vessels, and interior repair and installation of cabin panels, door and window trim, built-ins, and other finishing details with precision and visual quality for a polished final finish
  • Construction and Remodeling: Perform marine flooring, drywall, insulation, and related interior/exterior repair work, including, but not limited to, removing and replacing materials, preparing surfaces, and installing systems to ensure durability and safety in marine environments.
  • Formwork & Temporary Structures: Construct temporary structures such as containments for blasting, manholes, scaffolding, and access supports
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including occasional overtime, and other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Experience with hand and power tools (i.e., circular and reciprocating saws, jigsaw, and drill), measuring equipment, basic hand tools, and safety gear to complete work accurately and safely
  • Must adhere to compliance with marine safety and fire-resistance standards
  • Ability to read and interpret shipyard specifications, blueprints, SDS, and PDS
  • Knowledge of shipyard safety procedures, confined space protocols, and hazardous material handling
  • Ability to work in inclement weather (cold, hot, rain, snow, etc.) and extreme heat
  • Must have basic organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
  • Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMSNA and have high values for safety awareness

Education and Experience 

  • Journeyman, Technical, or Associate's degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 2 Years of marine, shipyard, or industrial carpenter, maintenance, and/or remodeler experience required, with preferred working knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, including 009-11.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch; and speak or hear. The employee may lift and/or move up to 35lbs regularly and up to 50lbs occasionally. Work is performed both inside and outside in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and arid climates. The employee may also be required to work in confined spaces and at varying heights. PPE is required to minimize noise exposure, moving machinery, weather elements, and other potential hazards, including the risk of injury.
