Job description

Diesel Shaft Mechanic Location: Hampton Roads, VA Industry: Marine / Shipyard Schedule: Full Time Tidewater Staffing is currently seeking experienced Diesel Shaft Mechanics to support shipyard repair, maintenance, and overhaul operations in the Hampton Roads area. Candidates should have strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, shaft alignments, and marine mechanical repair within industrial or shipyard environments. This role supports critical marine operations and requires individuals who can work safely, follow detailed specifications, and complete high quality mechanical work with professionalism and attention to detail. Responsibilities: • Perform repair, replacement, and testing of diesel engine components • Assist with shaft alignments, dial indicator setup, and alignment checks • Read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and work specifications • Troubleshoot cooling systems and identify mechanical discrepancies • Utilize precision measuring tools and specialty diesel equipment • Execute work in accordance with OSHA, NAVSEA, and shipyard safety standards •Complete required documentation and support QA procedures • Work onboard vessels and within active industrial environments • Coordinate with supervisors and other departments to complete assigned work • Maintain safe work practices and proper housekeeping standards Qualifications: • Minimum 5 years of marine diesel repair, outside machinist, or related mechanical experience preferred • Main shafting experience strongly preferred • Experience with diesel engine repair and alignment procedures required • Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items and OSHA standards preferred • Ability to read technical manuals and blueprints • Familiarity with WAFs, EPCP/PCP/CWP processes, and QA documentation is a plus • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving abilities • Ability to work with minimal supervision in fast paced shipyard environments Physical Requirements: • Ability to lift, carry, climb, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined spaces • Must be comfortable working onboard vessels and in industrial shipyard conditions • Ability to wear required PPE and follow all safety procedures What We Offer: • Competitive pay based on experience and level • Opportunity to support major marine and defense industry projects • Full time work potential with overtime opportunities • Team oriented shipyard environment within the Hampton Roads maritime industry 🚢
