Avail Staffing is seeking an experienced QA / Safety Inspector to support ship repair and new construction projects at local shipyards. This position is ideal for individuals with strong knowledge of shipyard safety regulations, quality assurance procedures, and NAVSEA standards. If you have an eye for detail and a commitment to workplace safety, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities
  • Perform quality assurance inspections on shipboard repair and new construction projects.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections throughout shipyard work areas.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NAVSEA, and company safety standards.
  • Inspect welding, pipefitting, electrical, coatings, mechanical, and structural work for quality compliance.
  • Monitor hot work, confined space, and other high-risk operations.
  • Verify proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Identify safety hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare inspection reports, deficiency reports, and quality documentation.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and accident investigations.
  • Verify work packages, drawings, specifications, and procedures are followed.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation.
  • Work closely with supervisors, production personnel, and customers to ensure project quality and safety requirements are met.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of shipyard Quality Assurance or Safety experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items and shipyard quality requirements.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and maritime safety standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work specifications.
  • Experience inspecting shipboard mechanical, electrical, structural, piping, or coatings work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, aboard vessels, and in industrial environments.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, climb ladders, and access various areas of ships.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including respirators when necessary.
