Job description

Location: San Diego, CA
Company: Standard Ship Repair
Additional Locations: Bremerton, WA, US
Level of Experience: Level 2
Reports to: Quality Assurance Supervisor/Manager
Salary Status: Hourly - Non-Exempt

Summary/Objective: Quality Assurance 2 reports to Quality Assurance Manager. Quality Assurance 2 performs duties associated with the administration of the quality assurance provisions of contracts by designing, implementing, and maintaining documentation control. Write check points, check TIP's, call outs, understand specs, and understand standard items.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Get familiarized with NAVSEA Std Items
  • Fill out and call out inspections/checkpoints
  • Attend onsite checkpoints after shadow senior team members
  • Follow documentation control
  • Create and Review Formal Work Packages (FWP) following templates.
  • Conduct Surveillances (after completing Workmanship Training)
  • Execute quality control measures (after completing QCI Training)

Education / Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess an excellent knowledge of ship repair procedures and test requirements
  • Excellent (English) verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be capable of independent, complex analysis, concept formation, and new method identification
  • Must possess in depth knowledge of quality related contract documentation
  • Must have direct experience in conducting reviews of work specification items, NAVSEA Standard Items, and other contract documentation to ensure all Testing and Inspection requirements are implemented and maintained within the TIP

Preferred:

  • Microsoft Office 3 years
  • Quality Control 1-3 years

Work Environment: This job operates in an office and a shipyard work environment.

Required Training:

  • Fill out, call out and inspections.
  • Quality Management System & ISO requirements, understanding.
  • Attends onsite checkpoints (ship/shop).
  • Documentation Control
  • Create and review FWP's
  • Complete Workmanship Training
  • Complete Quality control Training

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position that requires 40+ hours of work per week. M-F 0600 - 1430 (or as otherwise assigned by QA Manager) with pre-scheduled overtime as needed.

Travel: This position may require the ability to travel.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The physical demands for this position are light to moderate. This position requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires the ability to walk over uneven surfaces and occasionally climb ladders and other ship elements.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)

  • Completion of a satisfactory background check
  • Passing a drug test and physical examination
  • Eligibility to work in the US.
  • Obtaining DBIDS level security clearance.
  • OSHA 10 Maritime
  • Shipyard Competent Person (Preferred)
