Location: Houston, TX Area

Reports To: Director of Operations

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Project Manager to oversee shipyard operations for new vessel construction and repair projects. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex maritime projects, exceptional leadership skills, and proficiency in project management software such as Microsoft Project or similar tools. This role requires strong organizational abilities, technical expertise, and the capacity to lead cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, execute, and manage all phases of shipyard projects, including new vessel construction and repair, from initiation to completion.
  • Develop detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans using Microsoft Project or equivalent software.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (engineering, procurement, production) and external stakeholders (clients, subcontractors, suppliers) to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Lead and motivate project teams, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management and clients.
  • Manage change orders, resolve conflicts, and address issues promptly to maintain project momentum.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project management processes and shipyard operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, naval architecture, project management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a project manager in a shipyard or maritime industry, with a focus on new construction and/or repair projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing diverse teams in high-pressure environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, or similar project management software.
  • Strong understanding of shipyard operations, including construction techniques, repair processes, and maritime regulations.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ABS, USCG) and quality assurance processes.
  • PMP or similar project management certification is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with budgeting, cost control, and procurement in a shipyard setting.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a shipyard environment, including climbing ladders, accessing confined spaces, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Occasional travel may be required to meet with clients, vendors, or project sites.
