Shipping Clerk
We are searching for an experienced Shipping Clerk at our Portland, OR facility.
Job Summary:As the Shipping and Receiving Clerk, you will be responsible for themovement of goods in and out of a multi-shift operation. You will help with theflow of goods in order to keep production running smoothly and to keep materialmovement as efficient as possible.
(Monday- Friday,7am-3:30pm)
Duties and Responsibilities:Coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying andkeeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items forshipment: Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, andother records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shippingmethods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledgeof shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
Assists with incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy,completeness, and condition of shipments.
Determines space requirements and position of shipment in boxcars and trucksand lays out position of shipment.
Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications,and seals loaded boxcars and truck doors.
Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenancepersonnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.
Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storageand work areas.
Posts weight and shipping charges.
Prepares bills of lading.
May assist workers in shipping and receiving activities.
Required Experience:Demonstrated experience in managing forklift drivers, establishing an excellentsafety record, and effectively managing labor costs in the process.
Excellent team building skills are a must have as well - we want an engaged andcohesive team handling our clients' goods.
Being a stickler for details is also a must have in this role as materialmovement accuracy is critical.
You must be a team player
Required Education:1+ years' experience in warehousing, shipping and receiving, dock operations.
Desired Qualifications:Exceptional detail orientation and problem-solving skills; persistence andperseverance to find the answer.
Strong ability to effectively build both internal and external relationships toensure optimal service to customers.
Experience working with warehousing operations system.
Strong oral and written communication skills, you must be able to effectivelyassert yourself when needed.
Physical Requirements:Ability to work in a fast-paced, chaotic, constantly-changing workenvironment
Ability to stand, sit, squat, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl,stretch, walk, reach, twist, bend, grasp, use hands and fingers, handle objectsor controls, talk, hear
Agility to negotiate around moving machinery and people
Physical capabilities required in given department/assigned areas
