Job description

Position Summary

The Shipping/Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations within the shipping and receiving department on their assigned shift. This includes managing the movement of raw materials and finished goods, supervising warehouse personnel, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining accurate inventory records through ERP and WMS systems (NetSuite and RFSmart). The Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining workflow efficiency, accuracy, and safety within a fast-paced, refrigerated warehouse environment.

Primary Objective

To supervise and execute daily shipping and receiving operations while ensuring team productivity, inventory accuracy, safety compliance, and adherence to SOPs and food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and direct hourly staff, including forklift drivers, order checkers, and order builders.
  • Assign tasks and monitor progress to ensure shift goals are met.
  • Conduct daily shift huddles to communicate priorities, safety messages, and workflow updates.
  • Support onboarding and training of new employees.

Shipping/Receiving Operations

  • Oversee inbound receipt and outbound shipment of goods.
  • Ensure timely and accurate order picking, staging, and loading.
  • Perform final checks on order builds and documentation for accuracy.
  • Ensure pallets are wrapped, labeled, and staged for on time carrier pickup.
  • Monitor daily attendance and timesheet approvals.

Inventory & System Accuracy

  • Use RFSmart and NetSuite ERP systems to track receipts, transfers, and shipments.
  • Perform cycle counts and inventory spot-checks.
  • Report any discrepancies or issues to the Shipping/Receiving Manager.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure proper PPE use and adherence to safety protocols by all team members.
  • Conduct safety walkthroughs and assist in corrective actions.
  • Enforce GMPs and participate in SQF, Organic, and Non-GMO compliance activities.

Communication & Coordination

  • Maintain effective communication with production, quality, and logistics teams.
  • Alert management of delays, shortages, or safety concerns.
  • Provide shift reports and status updates for management.
  • Review and report shipping errors.

Equipment & Facility Maintenance

  • Monitor equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, dock levelers) for safe operation.
  • Coordinate equipment issues with maintenance.
  • Ensure work areas are clean, organized, and audit ready.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ year of supervisory or lead experience in a warehouse or distribution setting.
  • Experience in food manufacturing or cold-chain logistics is a plus.
  • ERP/WMS experience preferred (NetSuite/RFSmart a strong plus).

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of warehouse safety practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, data entry, reporting).
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.

Work Environment
