What is a freight coordinator?

Freight Coordinators are professionals responsible for managing and organizing the shipment of goods from one location to another. They coordinate logistics, schedule transportation, prepare shipping documents, and communicate with carriers, suppliers, and customers to ensure timely delivery. Freight Coordinators also track shipments, resolve issues that arise during transit, and ensure compliance with regulations. Their role is crucial in keeping supply chains efficient and goods moving smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freight coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freight Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of logistics or supply chain processes, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in transportation. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), freight tracking software, and documentation tools is typically required. Effective communication, problem-solving, and the ability to multitask under pressure are critical soft skills for this role. These skills ensure efficient shipment coordination, minimize delays, and maintain positive relationships with clients and carriers.

Freight Coordinators often face challenges such as managing tight delivery schedules, handling unexpected shipment delays, and communicating with multiple stakeholders including carriers, suppliers, and customers.
