We are seeking 2 Freight Handler Team Leads (Lead Hands) at our Lachine, QC terminal to support daily warehouse operations and provide frontline leadership to our team. This includes one Morning Shift Lead and one Afternoon Shift Lead.

  • Morning Shift Lead: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Afternoon Shift Lead: 1:30 PM - 10:00 PM
 

Summary

As a Freight Handler Team Lead, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement, loading, unloading, and storage of freight within the warehouse. This is a hands-on role that includes operating forklifts and manual material-handling equipment, maintaining warehouse organization, and taking ownership of the assigned receiving area.

In your capacity as a Lead Hand, you will also provide day-to-day guidance to team members, coordinate workflow on the floor, and ensure operational tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and accurately in alignment with company guiding principles and core values.

  Key Responsibilities Operational Duties
  • Load and unload freight manually and using pallet jacks, hand trucks, and forklifts
  • Transport materials safely to and from designated warehouse locations
  • Perform all forklift activities, including handling heavy, oversized, or sensitive freight
  • Manage and maintain the assigned receiving area with a high level of accuracy and organization
  • Follow established receiving procedures and store freight in the correct locations
  • Inspect incoming shipments for count and condition; accept or refuse freight as required
  • Complete and verify all receiving documentation accurately
  • Label, sort, and route freight to the appropriate destination
  • Follow special handling procedures for hazardous or sensitive materials
  • Develop load plans and anticipate equipment or space requirements
  • Maintain general warehouse cleanliness and perform basic maintenance tasks
  • Support packing and export boxing activities as needed
  • Provide excellent service to internal and external customers
Lead Hand Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day direction and support to warehouse team members on shift
  • Assist with assigning and prioritizing tasks to meet operational goals and deadlines
  • Act as a go-to resource for troubleshooting routine issues on the warehouse floor
  • Support onboarding and training of new employees, including safe work practices
  • Monitor workflow and proactively address bottlenecks or inefficiencies
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and operational procedures
  • Perform quality checks on receiving, labeling, and storage accuracy
  • Communicate issues, updates, and shift priorities to supervisors/management
  • Step in to support operations during peak periods or staffing shortages
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvement
  • Lead by example through strong work ethic, accountability, and professionalism

Requirements:  

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 
  • ability to operate Forklift/reach truck
  • Previous warehouse experience required; freight handling experience preferred
  • Prior experience operating forklifts and material-handling equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or support a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift and handle heavy freight as required
  • Solid communication and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to workplace safety and procedures
  • Flexibility to support operational needs within assigned shift

Minimum:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related forklift or warehouse experience.
  • Ability to lift light to heavy materials (50LB) safely.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment including forklifts and manual materialhandling tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual English and French Preferred

Salary Range: $21.21 - $31.82 CAD per hour, plus $1.50 CAD/hour, Lead premium.

This salary range is presented in compliance with applicable pay transparency laws and reflects the range we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined based on relevant experience, education, skills, and alignment with internal compensation practices.
