Functions
A Designer II, models and prepares drawings for the construction and repair of marine craft and floating structures such as ships, barges, and tugs. Performs QA/QC on design documentation and provides feedback in the form of redline markups for back fix.
Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.
  • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Use computer-assisted design/drafting equipment to prepare drawings related to the design of a ship.
  • Responsible for drawing multiple views of any section or part of a
    ship, depicting the relationship between components and parts.
  • Drafting drawings/sketches in AutoCAD or from 3D modeling software, such as FORAN, for production.
  • Preparation of AutoCAD diagrams and schematics for Production.
  • Perform QA/QC checks of peer-generated documentation.
  • Preparation for changing documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship or a Permanent Resident Card is required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Reporting Relationship
This position will be reported to the Design Supervisor.
Requirements/ Qualifications
  • Education/Experience: Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering
    Technology or similar field of study is preferred but not required.
  • Certification as an Autodesk Certified Associate.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software, such as FORAN or Ship Constructor.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Desired
  • Working experience with AutoCAD and reading/interpreting drawings
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, display attention to detail, and function as a team player.
