Job description

Join Our Team as a Sheeter Operator!
As a Sheeter Operator at Green Bay Packaging, you are the first line of production. You'll transform massive master rolls of paperboard into the precision-cut sheets that feed our high-speed printing presses. Operating our Sheeter Machines, you'll balance mechanical skill with a keen eye for detail to ensure every sheet meets the exact specifications required for world-class folding cartons.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Retrieve master rolls and use clamp trucks to load the backstand. You'll thread the web and set slitters and knives according to work instructions.
  • Monitor the Sheeter to ensure it runs at peak efficiency, maintaining proper tension and consistent cut lengths.
  • Conduct ongoing audits. You'll check for squareness, sheet size accuracy, and surface defects to ensure the printing department gets a perfect product.
  • Use your mechanical aptitude to "listen" to the machine, adjusting for web breaks, jams, or tension issues on the fly.
  • Manage roll stock data using basic computer systems and ensure finished pallets are labeled and staged correctly using forklifts or pallet jacks.
  • Keep a clean, safe workstation and perform basic preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain strict tool accountability and hygiene (GMP) standards to ensure our process with packaging remains uncontaminated.

Qualifications
  • You enjoy and understand how machines work and aren't afraid to use tools to make adjustments.
  • If the sheet isn't right, the whole plant slows down mentality. You take pride in "doing it right the first time."
  • You're comfortable being on your feet up to 8-12 hours a day, moving between the control console and the backstands, and can lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience with and/or ability to learn clamp trucks, forklifts, and electric pallet jacks.
  • You're ready to own the 2nd Shift (2:00 PM - 10:00 PM Monday - Friday) or 3rd Shift (10pm - 6am Sunday - Thursday)
    • Initial training: up to the first 120 days of employment working on day shift, Monday-Friday, 6 am - 2 pm, (is preferred)
  • Some overtime and weekend work may be required.

Want to Stand out?
To excel in this role, you will focus on the technical nuances that keep our production line seamless:
  • Monitor and adjust brake systems and dancer rolls to prevent web-weave or stretching, ensuring consistent sheet dimensions from the start of the roll to the core.
  • Set and maintain shear-cut slitters for clean, dust-free edges. You'll be responsible for monitoring blade wear and ensuring "squareness" within tight tolerances (e.g., +/- 1/32").
  • Fine-tune the "overlap" and tape speed settings to ensure smooth delivery into the stacker, preventing jams and ensuring press-ready loads for our litho department.
